One last ray of Hope...
After his rather unpleasant conversation with Henry, Avalon is sore and hurting. He feels like his chest is bleeding out all of his life, and every breath is an agony. What is coming now, what he must do before leaving is somehow just as much, if not more painful than his fight with Henry. It makes Avalon feel sick to his stomach, and he wrestles with it all day as he readies himself.

After packing all his things that Henry had so kindly bought him away in the guest room, with shirts and clothing and what have you neatly put away where they would belong. He then summons up his Blue Lantern uniform and goes in search of Josh. It's broad daylight and he doesn't even care if a civilian sees him.

Josh is not too far from the house. He's in a deserted little area in a tree, hidden away by leaves. And he's of all things...healing a squirrel.

"Hold still now," he murmurs, letting the soothing white light repair the little animal's leg. The healer finishes just in time to sense Avalon approaching. He can also sense something is rather wrong. Popping his head out above the leaves, he scans the sky for the Blue Lantern.

	Avalon has that grim look on his face - the one he was wearing with the Brain Trust. The only difference is.. he's sad, instead of angry. Glowing blue, he levitates down to Josh's tree, his tone soft as he says "We need to speak, Josh. I do not have much time, and there is something that I must tell you before it is too late." 	Josh almost has a little panic attack when he sees how grim Ava is and stands up. "What's wrong? More evil psychic monkeys and crazy glowing space strippers causing trouble?" he asks, completely serious despite how silly that sounds. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Avalon his shakes his head no, and then floats down a bit closer, close enough so that he can reach out to Josh's hand. "I'm leaving Earth." he says simply. "Henry and I are partners no more." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	It's a good thing Ava has Josh's hand because he just about falls out of the tree. "What?!" he's shocked, sad, worried...and looks like he was just told someone ran over his puppy. "Ava...why're you leaving? What's wrong?" he asks. "Please...don't..." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

When Josh just about falls, Avalon simply pulls him up into the air, extending his blue glow to the other boy. Now that Josh is free of the tree though, he draws them up a bit away from it, and drifts in closer to Josh - close enough to place his palm on Josh's chest and look into Josh's confused expression.

"I can not stay, not after what I said to him." he then murmurs. "I tried very hard to tell him how he hurt you and me both.. And I begged him to not do the same to Katima.. but my broken translator just messed it all up." Avalon blinks then, his eyes burning as he struggles to not let them tear up.

	Josh reaches up to put a hand on Ava's, worried. "Ava...what happened? Just...please. We can all sit down and talk and fix it," he says, his own eyes starting to burn as he senses the reaction in Ava. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"No, I can't stay." replies Avalon in a tortured tone. "I failed the Blue Lanterns - I haven't been able to tell Henry about my mother's vision, and now that I've gone and opened my big mouth to Henry about how I feel, I know that he.. he.." Avalon draws in a breath, "I know that he never really wanted me anyways."

Unable to take it a moment longer, Avalon rather throws himself at Josh, his arms twining around the taller boy's neck and presses himself up to Josh's chest. "This is so hard," he says in an almost whispered tone. "The hardest thing I've ever done - I don't want to say goodbye to you, but I must. I have to go back to Odym."

	"Ava, you didn't fail anyone," Josh begins. Though he tenses up a moment. "He...what?!" the healer gasps. Josh grabs onto Ava and holds on tightly. "Avalon...please...don't," the tears start falling. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Avalon gives Josh as oft little sweet smile, and goes to frame the other boy's face with his hands as he gently wipes away the tears. "I have to go back and face whatever my fate is for failing. I've all but lost Hope, Josh. When we part ways, it will be completely gone for me. Well.. not completely." he smiles through his tears, "You are my Hope now, Josh. And for however long I shall remain alive, I will hold that close."

He pauses, then draws them down to the grass, his reasoning apparent as he takes his ring off. "There is.. is more." he then struggles to say, his voice not all that different without the translator, but his English is halting and very accented.

	Josh sniffs a bit, just staring at Avalon. "But...you didn't," he says. "I...I am?" he asks, faint blush on his cheeks. He glances down quickly to make sure he hasn't turned blue. He wobbles a little as they get set down and his eyes go wide at the sight of the ring coming off. He's surprised by Ava trying to speak English without it, "What is it?" Avalon's teeth worry at his bottom lip as he searches for the words. He's practiced it over and over again, though now that it's time to actually say what he's been practicing, it's almost like he can't get the words out.

"I.. I love you, Josh." he finally gets out, stumbling over each word. "I do not trust my trans.. translator.. to get things.. right. I wanted to.. to.. to say it myself. I could not leave without you knowing."

	Josh waits patiently. But when Ava finally says it, Josh's heart just about tears in half for the second time since he's met the Lanterns. "Ava...I," he swallows. "I love you too," he says, leaning in for a kiss. He's thrilled to hear it but if Ava's leaving... (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

It's certainly a bitter sweet moment. Avalon feels like he's just about to burst, between what he, himself was feeling, and what Josh was feeling doubled over inside his head. The alien gives a soft little sound and then lifts up on his toes to meet Josh's lips. For Avalon ,the kiss is a wild thing, marked with passion just now tasted, yet sadly was never meant to be. Finally the tears spill over the rims of Avalon's closed lashes, and he chokes back a sob as he opens more to Josh, deepening the kiss.

	Josh makes though same sobbing noises as he presses back into the kiss. He wraps his arms around Ava and holds him close. "Please..." he trails off, breaking the kiss just long enough to say it. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"I'm sorry." whispers back Avalon. He clings to Josh, his body trembling so hard that he leans on the other boy to hold him up.

"I can not." he then says sadly, his voice so thick that the words are hard to even make out. Avalon squeezes Josh tightly, unwilling to let go. If only he had taken advantage of their time the other night alone. Now Avalon regrets not having done more with Josh than simple kissing. Then again.. a few days ago.. it didn't seem like this would ever happen.

"If they.. a-allow.. then I will come." he then stammers, eyes searching Josh's

Words weren't really needed, not by Avalon anyway. He presses in against Josh, his wings finally closing around the two of them as he simply enjoys the closeness. He doesn't have the heart to tell Josh, but this very well may be the last time they see each other. None of the other Blue Lanterns had gotten so dangerously close to loosing their Hope as Avalon has, and he fears that he will have to return his ring once he arrives back on Odym.

"Josh.. will you hold me? Please?" he then asks in his halting way, even though Josh already is holding him, Avalon feels the need to ask. "Just.. until I have to go."

Avalon finds it easy to draw Josh down onto the grass and snuggles into his arms. The afternoon is growing long, and the sun would be setting soon, but for now.. It's just Josh and Avalon and the spring around them. Life is blooming, leaves budding, flowers blooming.. But Avalon finds no joy in any of it as he might have usually done. He's busy trying to memorize every moment, every breath, every texture of Josh's being. He doesn't want to forget a single moment of these last few stolen moments with the last bit of his hope left.

Especially when he will be forced to finally leave.

But not yet. Not until the sun sets and the grass grows cold. They still have a little bit of time, however fleeting.
