Avia snuggled in close to him. "Okay," she said, after a moment. "I... it's why... it's why I never really let myself get close to anyone. Part of the reason, anyway. Just keep out there, never forming any tight bonds to someone... that way I couldn't get hurt if I lost them."
She breathed in. "And then I fell in love with you."
