JSA vs. Monster Society
It was time for an impact visit. This time in the Bronx. It was going well, Tess thought. Crime as a whole had been going down in the wake of these visits.

What she didn't know is that at that same moment, one of the more strong-willed employees at STAR Labs' New York location was tripping the silent alarm.

"Police scanner says about a dozen people, maybe more," Jacob informed.

"Seeing nothing at any doors or windows, so even with all the heavy hitters out here, they've got somebody in there keeping the hostages inside."

Tess notes the team members engaging, but is still studying.

"That looks like Serendipity Sivana... there's the Black Marvel... the new Mr. Atom.... we're looking at a reunion of Fawcett City Villainy: the Next Generation. Which has some worrying implications for the hostages, but... at least it won[t require any of our heavies to handle." And Tess will carefully, discreetly, make her way around the fighting to the doors of the lab.

It feels it. It does. The female, the one who thinks herself so smart. Oh yes, she does.

But now it's time.

At his urging, one of the men activates the system. Oh yes. It will make her weak. So weak. She will be a good host to attack the world then.

And as the laser-grid system activates, she can hear it, feel it, slice across the back of her jacket.

"That was a good jacket," she quietly announces to the air around her as she lets it fall, and starts to contort herself, too slide and tumble just so, exactly right, through the crevices between slicing light.

It speaks, but ti won't matter. The small creature keeps its abilities trained on the men activating the control.

Yes, an increase in speed. Would she be able to withstand it?

If so, there will be much fantisizing. Hearing her will bend to his once he has slithered into her body. To claim it as his own...Yes. Yes, that sounds adequate.

Tess certainly doesn't know there's any fantasizing as said healthy body writhes and winds its way faster through the ever-shifting net. As the speed changes, it throws her estimations off, and there'll be a few points where she can hear the sizzle and feel it shaving an epidermal layer off her arm.

But the scream is choked off. And she persists, twisting her way to the other end of the room to break into the inner part of the lab. And her poker face goes Right Down to the psyche.

Oh...yes! She is skilled. And the mind...that MIND! It is strong, and bending it to him would be exquisite. Like a good meal.

So now he waits. He reaches deep into his madness, ready to subject her to it once she was in...

The floor was well-trampled earlier, before the system was activated. Tess scoops up enough dust to drop over the keypad to the door. 1, 2, 4, 6. building full of physics geeks. Newton. 1642.

Tess has begun to suspect what awaits her. She doesn't think of the pain, the stress. She thinks of the numbers as she figures them out, and then she thinks of pressing them, and walking through the door to deactivate the machines and free the hostages.

Once she is through the door and in clear view of the hostages, the Control moves. The one by the security panel is released. The second mind now activates the second panel. this was an experimental device, but with a few tweaks it instead bathes the general are of the woman with intense heat.

Oh, she will hurt. She will be in pain. She will be His.

The heat is searing. Her injured arm makes her want to scream, but she doesn't. She locks down and focuses...

and keeps walking.

She should be down. She should be screaming. And she should be His.

<You should be in pain! Submit!>Came his voice once she was in range. It is not spoken, It seems to hover at the front of her mind, like a bad movie dubbing.

And Tess keeps walking through the skin-searing heat, until she's in reach to swat the glassy-eyed technician's hand away from the controls.

Every great act of defiance needs a proper action-movie line.

"Certainly I'm in pain."

Or, if you're Tess, a paraphrased Oscar-nominated Robert Bolt screenplay.

"The trick is not minding the pain."

And as soon as the machine's turned off, she'll start searching the room.

Panic. Panic! Panic at the One who resists! She inspires deep fear in the small worm, one that is not easily abated.

Should Tess look in the furniture against the wall near the hostages, she will see what looks like an oversized grub that will stare at her.

Scientists always have some kind of jars lying about. She'll put him in it, shut down all unfortunate materials, and get this sucker far away from his victims.
