Impact Heroics.
Miss Terrific strode through a Queens neighboor in broad daylight, in full uniform, hair up so the Fair Play logo was adequately displayed on the back of her jacket. They'd divided up, two by two, Jacob back at the Brownstone to work on equipment and keep an ear out for emergencies elsewhere in the city. Each had their assigned routes -- Tess had portioned them out when she'd called them together for it, since she hadn't expected anyone else to memorize the complicated schedule she'd devised to ensure no one would ever come up with a way to 'game' the JSA's visits to particular neighborhoods. No dates or times would be predictible. This open, daytime presence, talking to people, finding out what was going on, could happen at any time.

There was more to this game than just showing up when the bad guys did.

After a quick friendly chat with some of the local kids at the playground, Tess grinned at her partner and walked along. "Nice, brisk weather and everything," she said.

"Mmhm. And I think it's good for people in the city, too. With all respect to our colleagues in New Jersey, I don't want to do things that way here."

"There's plenty of heroes with their own techniques. The JSA has always been a little bit different... more down to Earth than a lot of those who followed. This fits pretty well, I think."

She nods. "Yeah. The whole Terrific schtick started as a Good Example For the Kids thing, too, so accessibility seems right. Mom, being from New Jersey, though, when I told her about it, she had to see my compilation of data from sociology and criminology studies before she stopped scowling like I'd painted a target on my forehead."

"I don't know, having the museum, public meetings and appearances and the rest has seemed to work in Keystone. Granted, a lot of that was as much the people, and just the right personalities, but still."

"Yeah, sometimes it's all in context, but anyway, Mom saw sense -- or, at least, that cite my sources and don't back down." She chuckles.

He nods. "For the best. Given this team and all. Plus I'm a lot happier with this approach. I'd look terrible in grey and midnight blue."

"It wouldn't. I don't think even the most cowardly and superstitious criminals would be able to take me as a dark legend of the night very seriously."

Tess can't help but laugh. "There I go. Smiling in public again. You're going to ruin my rep, Steven."

He nods firmly, wiping the smile of his face, with some effort. "Don't worry, I'll wear black, show up on a motorcycle. The works. You can tell them I'm one of those formerly evil reforming Flashes from the future."

"Yeah, it has to be. They were a big part of almost all of my upbringings, so not so different for me. I try to find the right balance with them. They like seeing me, getting to know me... but... yeah."

[info]madeofgoesfast

"That kind of depends on which time and which Joan. She and Jay were much more constant than most others... with a couple exceptions, but I lived hundreds of lives there. Just, in most of them... well, most where they hadn't died, they raised me."

He nods. "Usually. But the people who were real constants in the lives of speedsters were there more than others. Joan, Linda, Alan, Iris, Ralph and Sue."

"Pretty much. They made it a little more real. People who would have been around anyway. A lot of others were there, but more as blurred images and faded memories. Your dad was one of those."

He sets his pace to match hers, aside from blurring a little once a minute or so to do a quick check around the nearest few blocks, getting back in time to make sure he hasn't missed anything.

Aside from enjoying the scenery, there's a few more conversations with local residence, business proprietors, etc. They hear a few things that bear looking into, mostly just listen.
