The Wake
There was something bright and brittle and not quite sane in Lenore Cynthia Montgomery Lord's eyes right now.

"How can we not have found who did this, yet?" She asks quietly as she stands outside the room with the.. with...as she stands outside That Room, not targeting any of the people around her in particular with the question. "How can he still be walking around somewhere when she's not getting up again?"

	A secretary for the funeral home came out of her office. "Mr. Stewart, I have pulled up the security footage on my computer if you'd like to see it." Her face had gone pale. Whatever she'd seen had been very unpleasant. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The secretary leads Rex to the office and sits him down in front of the computer before clicking play on the video. Once it's running, she turns away.

There is no sound, and at first everything appears normal. Nic is laying in the casket while a technician moves to get something--it appears he's switching out the pillow. He does not get to complete the task, however, as a figure enters the room and snaps his neck just as Nic's was. The figure, face still away from the camera moves then to Nic's body. There are some hand gestures as though the man is speaking and suddenly Nic's body moves as though she's gasping for air. Her eyes open and she sits up, enraged. She takes a swing at the man, who effortlessly catches her arm. There isn't even a struggle. Nic is no match for him and in short order he's snapped her neck again. With very little care, he picks up her limp body and tosses it over his shoulder before turning.

When he turns, the man looks right at the camera and smiles before saluting and then walking out the door with Nic's body. His face is perfectly clear. Rex will have no question about who he is.

	And Rex's fist goes through the monitor in exactly that instant, along with another enraged growl. "It's Vandal Savage. I should have known it was him! Cindy, thanks for your help. My friends and I will take it from here." Rex says, turning to go. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Cindy has tried to maintain a sense of realism throughout all this, and not give in to false hope, to try to honor Nic's memory rather than tell herself pretty lies. But now she's seriously in shock, her eyes wide, her throat tightening.

"...You think I can just stand here and give a fucking police statement while this guy is reanimating her corpse so he can kill her again?"

	"You're going to need to, Cindy. I'm not taking responsibility for you, Cindy. Your old man will blame me if you die and then it won't ever be over between me and him. So yes, you're going to talk to cops and do what's necessary while we find Savage and tear him into pieces." Rex says. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
