Council Meeting
Below or above the surface, Atlantis was Atlantis. Not much had changed in the city and with the people even though it was now an island on the surface of the water. There was still rebuilding to do, but the population of the city went about their daily lives and politics and government never took a break.

It was Cait's first weekend in Atlantis as part of the deal with her mother and Arthur. Ty was with her and so far Arthur had been on his best behavior. Ty was stressed and Cait was stressed, but they were able to handle it. For now.

Today was a council meeting and Cait was looking forward to it. She had an ace up her sleeve and with any luck, after the meeting she won't be betrothed to Cerdian.

She took a deep breath and walked into the council chambers.

	Arthur gave everyone curt nods, letting people get settled. Then he stands, casting a glance over the assembly. "I'm calling this meeting to order. Before I bring up my own business, does anyone have anything they feel needs the council's attention?" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"My son will not be present for this meeting, my King. He had a...situation to deal with and sends his apologies." Garth says, looking around to everyone. 	Cait kept quiet. Technically she was a guest here. She wasn't a member of the council or the current ruler of Atlantis. She wouldn't speak unless asked a direct question or addressed by the council. She could ask for permission to address the council, but she wanted to wait until the right moment. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Cait stood up and took a deep breath. Her stomach tightened up in a knot. She shouldn't be nervous around these people, she had grown up knowing them, but she had never wanted something from them before.

"Thank you, Your Majesty," Cait said with a small bow to her father.

"Lords and ladies of this revered council," she started out. "Thousands of years ago the kingdom of Atlantis was on the surface of this world. She flourished and prospered until the Great Cataclysm sent the cities of Atlantis into the ocean. There, in the cold depths of the ocean she continued to survive and prospered. The cities of that great nation split apart and went their own ways.”

“In our recent history those cities found each other again and steps were made to reacquaint ourselves with our long lost cousins. Teens from Poseidonis now go to stay in Tritonis and recently Thierna Na Oge and teens from those cities are here in Poseidonis. They were until Poseidonis resurfaced. There were talks of such a program with Tlapallan. We reunited with our cousins and started forging ties that would help all of Atlantis flourish, but now all that work has been undone.

Now, Atlantis is broken once again. Poseidonis sits here, on the surface, while her sister cities remain on the ocean floor in the safety of the depths. We are once again separated from our dear cousins of the depths and are now apart of the world that belongs to our other cousins, the humans.”

Cait took a deep breath. The more she talked, the easier it became, but the knot was still in her stomach. “I love the surface and its people. It's exciting, wonderful and there's so much to see and do, but I am an Atlantean. My heart and my soul yearn to return to the ocean where I was born. Here, floating above the waves is not the same. We are Atlanteans. We need to be /in/ the ocean, not on her surface.”

“While I do wish Poseidonis, and all of Atlantis, will have more contact with the surface and its people, we do not belong here. Poseidonis needs to rejoin her sisters in the depths ocean.”

	Arthur remains not at all happy about this. It still feels like blackmailing the council... which is totally different from trying to ensure an Atlantean succession. Still, it seemed the best option, rather than losing his daughter. "Go on." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"He is the young man that Princess Caitria has taken a liking to. He has aided us in the past, as she says." Garth speaks. "However...before we consider this plan, perhaps there are other options we can explore?" Garth suggests. "Would you be inclined to help the very people who would keep you from the person you love?" Cait asked. "I will not disgrace my honor and the honor of Atlantis by using Ty's feelings for me to get him to do this for us. I respect myself, Atlantis and him too much for that."

Cait took a deep breath. Here's the hard part.

"Maybe we can reach a compromise that would be more acceptable to all parties," Cait suggested.

"I love Cerdian like a brother and that's how I see him," she said. "We grew up closer than some siblings and in our hearts that's what we are to each other. No matter the situation I would still not want to marry him. What I suggest is that instead of me marrying the one person that I don't want to marry, let me accept suits from anyone, human or Atlantean, who wants to present one. Ty will be more inclined to help Atlantis and there is the possibility of me marrying an Atlantean. There is no perfect solution to this, but I hope we can agree on a compromise."
