	A few minutes later, they're standing before a group of heroes, each covered with a black mercy. Henry lets Din go, and puts the laser off to the side for him to pick back up. "DAD!" He rushes towards his father's prone form. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Aww crap!"

Dinadan grabs Henry by the back of his shirt and pulls him back. "Don't get too close, it might try to grab you too!"

The laser probably isn't going to be much help here. Trying to shoot the Black Mercy off of everyone's chests seems like a phenomenally bad plan, and chopping them off with a sword doesn't sound too good either.

He peers around Henry at the unconscious adults. He thinks they're all still breathing. He really, really hopes they are. "Okay, I know I've read up on this."

"I'm thinking as fast as I can!"

Okay, okay, think think think...

"Right, um, special gloves! Mongul had special gloves that he could wear to handle the Black Mercy without falling victim to it." Dinadan stoops down and picks the laser up. "I'll go see if I can find them. You can help or you can stay and make sure nothing bad happens here; but if you hear me screaming and shooting things, I probably need you to come save my butt. Okay?"

	Not having expected anyone to be able to get this far, the gloves aren't too difficult to find, though they seem to be alien tech. Maybe there's some kind of energy field or something that sets the Mercy dormant - in any case, these may take some figuring out, since there's no instruction manual present. 	While Din looks, Henry loses patience. He moves to his dad's side, and slips the ring off his finger. Holding it in his hand, he presses it into his dad's palm... and attempts to make contact. ...Dad? (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Hal stands alongside Kilowog, Salaak, Ch'p, Arisia, Katma Tui, and Sinestro, smiling broadly. Behind them, the Oan Central Battery. Before them, the rows of assembled Green Lantern Corps. Front and center, of course, are Alan Scott and the other Green Lanterns of Earth.

All save one.

Carol is there too, of course, as an honored guest. So are the other heroes of Earth: Barry, Ollie, Kal, Diana, J'onn, Arthur, Bruce, and all the rest.

"You ready for this, Hal?" Arisia asks, slapping a hand on his shoulder.

"Of course he is," Sinestro replies primly. "I'm not surprised that a child of Jordan has achieved such an honor. Jordan himself has likely been expecting it."

Katma rolls her eyes. "Not even Hal himself achieved this honor," she points out.

"I heard Mogo achieved it... once," Ch'p offers.

"Rumor," Salaak says. "This award has only been given out twice before."

"Yeah, well, that kid keeps this up, they'll need to invent a new award just for him," Kilowog smiles gruffly.

Hal turns back to all his friends. "Let's do this," he says. "Bring him in."

From the back of the hall, there's movement... and the most-honored Green Lantern steps into the hall, to approach the central battery... to receive an award that only two Green Lanterns in the billion-year history of the Corps have ever received.

Henry Jordan.

Hal has never been more proud.

	For an instant, Hal thinks he sees Henry at a strangle angle, like he's lying prone and his son is standing over him, but then the vision's gone and he shrugs it off. The assembled Corps are applauding now, in a wave that's carrying his son toward the dias. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Cerdian... Din... Allanah... a few others." Henry helps his father to his feet. All of the people he's mentioning are superpowered.

But Henry doesn't care if his dad figures out that Henry was using the ring or not. That's... just not important at the moment.

It's funny. Henry's wanted nothing more than his own ring for years... as long as he could remember. But right now, giving up the ring he's had seems perfectly natural.

	"Stay here with Din," Hal says, getting his thoughts in order. "And... Henry?" He places a firm hand on his son's shoulder. "You did good. Keep each other safe." With a flash of light, Henry's wearing a Green Lantern costume again. "It's temporary, but it should last until we get out of here." He gives his son a conspiratorial wink, and then he's gone to find Mongul. (Reply to this)(Parent)
