One Night In The City
Dallas Brand stands on the street corner of Park Avenue in Gotham, now known as Crime Alley to world at large, and watches as a homeless man sits sleeping against the wall of a notary building. He wishes he could give the man a bit of money to get out of the street this evening, even if it's just to buy a sandwich, but some things just can't happen when one is dead. He knows that this man doesn't have much longer to go, which is why Dallas is here.

He looks at this man who seems downtrodden by life and wonders what his story is. What led him to this place? He sees a wedding ring on the man's left finger. Is someone waiting for him somewhere, or are they long gone? The longer Dallas watches this man sleep, the more he wonders who else would care about where this man had come from, which brings a song to mind.

"I found God on the corner of 1st and Amistad
Where the West was all but won
All alone, smoking his last cigarette
I said, "Where you been?" He said, "Ask anything"

Where were you when everything was falling apart?
All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang
And all I needed was a call that never came
To the corner of 1st and Amistad

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me

But in the end everyone ends up alone
Losing her, the only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not and who I wanna be
No way to know how long she will be next to me

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me!

The early morning, the city breaks
And I've been calling for years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve taking all I want!

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor, where were you? Where were you?

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me!

Why'd you have to wait to find me, to find me?
"

Dallas sings his heart out, imagining the crowd around him, even though he's certain no one can hear him. No one's been able to hear him for over two months, so why would they now.

Still, it's the closest he gets to a live performance anymore.
