A Girl Walks Into a Coffeeshop (Open)
Maria needed some downtime and some time out of Gotham. The place got to you after awhile and sometimes you just needed a break. She hopped on her bike and went where the road took her. This time it took her to Metropolis. The city was almost the opposite of Gotham and it was a nice change of scenery. Maria had planned to do some sight seeing in this world, but with recent events it had been hard. She was correcting that now.

She parked her bike outside of a coffeeshop and walked in. Caffiene was needed before some exploring could be done.

She laughed with him. "I'm a big girl now. I even wear big girl panties. Want to see?" She wouldn't show him of course, at least not here, but she wanted to see what his reaction was.

He smirks. Petra has him well trained on this. "Isn't that what x-ray vision is for?" Not that he's ever abused it like that, or ever would... but it seems the right response.

Maria laughed. "Yes, but I think you're too noble and good to use it for such nefarious purposes."

"Guilty as charged." he agrees.

"Point to me." She grinned as she leaned on an elbow and put her chin in her hand. "I bet the girls just swoon all over that noble good guy thing and your girlfriend doesn't worry because you're too good to look at anyone else."

"I...ahhh... wouldn't know." Which is true. Jon has never really noticed girls noticing him or not. "And, I don't exactly have a girlfriend. I mean... I was... sort of... seeing someone. But she was from another dimension, and went home." And suddenly all this isn't quite as funny.

"Trust me when I say they probably are. You just haven't noticed."

Maria went quiet. "I'm sorry to hear that. Good guys shouldn't get shafted like that."

"I'll take your word for it. I've been told that once or twice." and he's even starting to believe it, maybe.

"Nothing to be sorry over. Things happen."

"I know what I'm talking about." She gave him a wink.

"It still sucks. Things like that shouldn't have to happen to the good guys. Where is the justice in the universe? You stand up and risk everything and then stuff like that happens."

"Oh... uhm, thank you." Part of the not noticing - he's also usually not quite sure what to make of it when he does.

"Sometimes things just happen. Anyone who is in this business for the rewards and accolades and all is in the wrong business."

Oh he was cute when he was flustered.

"Yes, but all that people do for the greater good they should at least deserve some happiness. We don't get paychecks, we should at least get some happiness for all that we do."

"Technically, there is a stipend for serving with the JLA, so we do get paychecks."

"We all can't be JLA members," she said. "I know the only paycheck I see is from Wayne Industries where I have my day job. I don't see one for beating up bad guys on the streets of Gotham."

Maria just smiled. "Well Mister Jon Kent. It has been a pleasure meeting you and talking to you, but I must not keep you from your brooding any longer." She was joking, but she knew when people wanted to be alone and she had bugged him enough.

"Hopefully our paths will cross again sometime soon, Handsome." Maria may have helped that a little by placing a card with her phone number on it on the table in front of him.

She stood up and offered a hand. "Take care of yourself and I hope you find some happiness."

"Miss Wayne, you've brightened my day immensely, thank you. And please, feel free to come by any time." He notes the number... and will have to consider that.

"I won't keep you... but I'll look forward to seeing you again." Even if nothing else comes of it, new friends are good.

"I just may," she said with a grin. She gave him one last big smile and then headed out of the coffeehouse.
