Buy Me Some Peanuts and Crackerjacks (Zoe, eventually Trey)
It was Opening Day at Papp Stadium. Spring was in the air, the Star City Rockets were going up against the Central City Stars, and GK Walker was giddy.
He'd gone to meet Zoe, enough makeup on his cheek to cover the now-healing cut, and now they were walking toward the stadium. "Maybe I should get a car," he said, thinking aloud.

"Oh, no, I'm sorry, just kind of useless about this stuff. Me, I was wandering in the Triangle my first week in Star City without a clue what I was doing." It was true, from a Certain Point of View. "Zoe was very helpful. And now her Mom's thrilled she's got someone to drag her around and tell her she's too pretty to wear certain things."

"We were stuck out in the open during the zombie attack and when Mom saw us afterward she went on about the condition of my clothes. GK quite cheerfully told her that he completely agreed because I'm an autumn and they didn't suit me." Zoe smiled reluctantly. It was a good slam at her personal taste, and kind of funny at the same time.

"Oh...well, that's pretty cool." Trey says, uncertain of that. He knows nothing about fashion, but is of the opinion that Zoe could make a potato-sack look hot.

Not that he'd want to see her in one, but the fact remained.

"How is your mom, lately?" he asks.

"She's got golden undertones to her complexion," GK says cheerfully. "She needs earth tones, chocolate browns, deep greens, warm grays, no other kind, bittersweet reds. That'd really show her off."

He pauses and smiles to Zoe. "At least we can probably agree that anyone trying to dress you in pure pink should be shot?"

And might indeed be, he figures.

"That'd be a good guess," she said with snort.

"Mom is doing okay. She's happily filing motions against property owners for the damage done by the zombies. They didn't get far into the Triangle, but the edges are ragged and they're the last on anybody's list to get fixed."

Yeah, Trey is definitely /not/ a fashionista, so he can only take GK's word on this sort of thing.

"I'm surprised we didn't see any out where I was. I only heard about them. That must have been insane."

"Killed any desire to watch zombie movies," Zoe commented. She glanced over at Trey and thought she'd seen the same look in his eyes as she had GK's on Zombie Day. "Only vampire movies from now on. Maybe werewolf. No crazy zombies."

"Vampire movies are ruined since Twilight and there's /never/ been a good werewolf movie." Trey says.

"That makes me sad, because I love the idea of werewolves." Trey says.

"When you mention vampires and Bela, and people don't know you mean Legosi, film culture is truly dead," GK says sadly.

"You ever read that Ric Madoc story they released from the mental hospital? About the weregoldfishwolf?" Pause. "Or does my mother just collect really obscure books?"

Zoe made a face. "Twilight isn't about vampires. It's somebody not keeping their fantasies to themselves where they belong. Any vampire movie is better than those."

"Weregoldfishwolf? They ever make a movie about it? That I'd watch."

"That's the most obscure thing I've ever heard of. How would a weregoldfishwolf even /work/?" Trey asks, trying to imagine it in his head. Every imagine was so silly it made him laugh harder.

"Kristen Stewart is kinda cute, but I can't help but see her as Bella in anything I see her in now. It's like that movie has permanently marked her." Trey says.

"Well, he's a goldfish during certain phases of the moon, and he's a wolf during the full moon -- I think the aquarium doubled as a water dish. It was the author's first book after his big psycho-breakdown. They made a few movies of Madoc's early stuff, but none of his nuthouse work, no."

"Totally understand, man. Robert Pattinson was once reasonably handsome. Never, ever again."

"Guys, stop being guys for a second. The /story/ was crap. Twilight, not the weregoldfishwolf. What the actors looked like isn't the point."

"Well, of course the /story/ was terrible. In the absence of a terrible plot or story, you then have go for the looks of the actors to redeem it. If /that/ doesn't help, then there's no hope and you've got to call it a wash." Trey says.

"Although, it's multi-million dollar wash, so...yeah."

Trey could not help but imagine making out with Zoe when she mentioned it. He then took a very long sip of his drink so as not to say something stupid to that comment.

Granted, it would have looked cooler if he'd taken the cap off the bottle first, but he realizes his mistake, uncaps the bottle and drinks.

"Okay, favorite movies, people. Go. O Brother, Where Art Thou?" Trey says.

GK blinks at Zoe's commentary. "Now that's a plan I'll have to instate if I ever acquire the right person to... help me instate it."

And was that a Zoe from Trey? It so was.

"Don't make me choose between Jedi and De-Lovely!"

"I like Zorro and Kill Bill. Both of them."

She rose from her seat to get another soda, stretching as she did. It seemed like they'd been sitting for hours, but she couldn't remember paying attention to any of the game.

"...Return of the Jedi. Under Protest."

"I like Trek. BSG's a bit past my 'watch as we slowly screw people over' threshhold. But you should see Zorro sometime, man. It's great. Classic story, action, and plenty of eye candy."
