Bed Rest
Kyle woke up with a massive headache and found when he opened his eyes that he couldn’t see. Feeling with his hands toward his eyes he could tell that they were covered with bandages. It took a little bit for him to put together that he was in a hospital bed at his hospital.

He blindly fumbled around for the button to call a nurse to him. Last thing he remembered was those things attacking him and that explosion of white light. He wanted to know what was going on and what had happened.
Nurse that he was familiar with quickly answered the call when he pressed the button.

“Dr. McNider it’s good to see you’re awake,” she says, “You’ve been out for days.”

“Do you have any idea what happened to me,” He asked a little apprehensively.

“We’re not entirely certain,” She told him, “We found you in surgery after the attack like this out cold. We were so glad to find you alive after all that had happened.” She wasn’t telling everything though she didn’t have to heart to do it.

Kyle could tell that she was holding something and he was smart enough to put two and two together. “Jenny why are my eye’s bandaged up,” He asked he already thought he knew the answer to that but wanted to be told he was wrong.

She was quiet for a moment she really didn’t want to be the one to do this. “When we found you it quickly became apparent that you had suffered from serious optical damage. We don’t know how bad it is but your mentor is here looking into it.”

Kyle laid back in his bed. It was as he thought even though he didn’t want it to be true.

Kyle didn't say anything for a while what was there that he could say. There simply was to much to process and he would need a lot of time to cope with all of it.

"Thank you for trying. I know you did your best Dr. Cross but there are somethings that simply can't be fixed," Kyle said his state of shock obvious in his voice.

There was one thing that he hadn't tried it had been a long shot a best but since there really wasn't much to lose at this point he felt he ought to try it.

"Kyle there is something I would like to try out," He says walking about the room.

"I highly doubt this will work but you never know,"He says as he now approached Kyle and started taking off his bandages covering his eyes.

Kyle didn't quite know what his mentor was up to but he trusted that he knew what he was doing even if he didn't.

Kyle kept his eyes closed as the last of the bandages came off afraid to really confirm for himself that he was really blind. But curiosity got the better of him and he opened.

"What the hell," Kyle said. He could see granted his vision seemed a little wonky but he could still see. Dr. Cross was never wrong with diagnosis like this especially when he went to tell the patient.

"What happened how am I able to see," He asked.

"I closed the blinds and turned off the lights making it as dark in your room as I could," Pieter said, "There was a chance a slim chance that you might possess a meta-gene similar to your great-uncle's which enabled him to see in the dark after he was blinded too. I can go into greater detail about that later but I still have to tell you that you will still lose your medical license since you technically are legally blind but I think I know something you could do that might be right up your alley and still let you practice medicine and still help people who need it."

Kyle was definitely having trouble processing all of this. First he was told he would never see again only to find out he can now only see in the dark. Secondly he was told that he would never be allowed to practice medicine again the only thing he ever wanted to do with his life ever since he was little but now Dr. Cross seemed to have an answer to that too. He had heard Dr. Cross could preform miracles and had seem him pull off a few himself but this was starting to get ridiculous.

"Why is it,how would I still be allowed to practice medicine," Kyle asked.

"Superheroes could always use a doctor with your level of skill. I can't be everywhere and someone else to help out would be great," Pieter said, "If your willing to do this once you've recovered more I'll introduce you to some people who would definitely appreciate having you around.

"Sure," Kyle said immediately.

He probably would have taken and opportunity to keep doing what he loved but he had to say this did sound rather interesting.
