Morgan le Fey knew that that fire wouldn’t have really hurt him but she wasn’t going to let anything happen to her beloved son this time. So maybe she tipped her hand a little early but it wasn’t like any of them were powerful enough to stop her now.
In her hands she held Merlin’s Philosopher’s Stone whose power she was now channeling. She had been seeking the stone for centuries and she now how it’s power and with it there was not much she couldn’t do with magic now.
With but the briefest thought she cast a spell to protect her son from the attack.
