Frisco Blues (Titans)
It started as any other morning in San Francisco. The sun came up in the East and people climbed from the beds to start their day.

The Titans in Titans Tower were starting their day. Their new sister team from the East were visiting for a meeting to discuss the current situation. While they were inside making plans, the waters of the Pacific started to churn. Waves kicked up and dark clouds blocked out the light of the sun.

The water quickly pulled back from the shore and things were calm for the briefest of moments. Then a huge tsunami crashed ashore and water flooded the lower half of the city.

The punch connect squarely in Bushido’s jaw. Letting go of the swords he goes blasting off into the air away landing far in another area code of the city.

And as he flies off, in the midst of all the furious activity around, anther Black Lantern, without much in the way of superpowers, wearing an army uniform, walks up.

All his life, there's been a void in Jay's life. There were pictures everywhere. His mother sat by one, staring for hours when she got crying drunk.

There's a reason, even at the height of his bad boy days, Jay stood for the national anthem - and sang it for all he was worth, saluted the flag, and stayed in all-American boy sports playing shape.

Christmas and his birthday weren't holidays - well, his birthday was only because it was Ruth's. No, Veterans Day, the 4th of July and Memorial Day were Jay's holidays. For one reason.

All the fight, all the chaos, all the whirling love of conflict leave him, Jayhawk all but abandoning him as he turns... and stares.

"Dad?"

This is stupid! This is suicide! He's a zombie! He's one of them!

The internal screaming doesn't matter. Its his father. He has to help them - he will help them. Its everything he's always hoped for - the void filled, that presence that's always hovered over his home, but never became quite real there in the flesh.

The chaos melts away entirely, Jayhawk abandoning Jay as he stands tall, tears streaming from his eyes as he does the only thing he can.

He salutes.

Sgt. Sayers snaps one back as he keeps walking closer.
"Nice one, kid. We'll clean things up here, and then home to your Mom. She'll be so proud. Then the Rev.'s place. Keep the whole family together."

And then he steps right up. And reaches.

He doesn't even move to defend himself. Realization comes too late. His eyes go wide for just a moment, then his breath catches.

He's still saluting, tears still streaming as he imagines, for the barest moment, having a real family.

Even as he watches his heart get ripped from his chest, its on his mind and in his words.

"Now we can all be... together."

Almost his last. As he drops to his knees, he manages on more.

"Ruth..." and then he's gone.
