Mending Fences (Nicolette)
Rex has had quite a bit of time to think recently, with Mickey's passing, Cerdian's and Jai West's as well. His mom and step-father had been in bad shape at one point, too. His love for Hope is a bright point in his life, as is the amount of caring he has for his teammates, but one relationship above all was still in tatters and it was time for Rex to step up and fix it, before he lost it forever.

He dialed Nic's phone and hoped she was somewhere nearby.

"Hey, Pnnt. Um...it's me. I need you to come home right away. It's important." Rex says to her voice-mail.

Then he gets started on cooking the bacon. Lots of bacon.

	Nic sat and listened to the voice mail a few times. He hadn't talked to her in awhile and now a voice mail. What did he want? It probably wasn't good. Never was. She dragged herself home, let herself in and smelled bacon. Yeah. It was a trap. "Here." (Reply to this)(Thread)

	"It's bacon. I can always eat." She sat down at the table and watched him for a minute. "How angry are you at me now and how quickly are you sending back to Egypt or reform school? "You're not going to make this easy, are you?" Rex asks, taking a deep breath.

"I'm not angry and I'm not sending you away, Nic. I wanted you to come home so I could tell you that I love you." he says.

"I know that I've been hard on you, but that's because I know how I was at your age. No one could tell me anything because I knew everything. Mom and Carter tried. Check my arrest record if you don't believe me." Rex says.

"I also know what it's like to feel like no one listens to you or cares what you think. I lived that, too. But I just saw a good friend of mine have a hole blasted in her chest, Nic." Rex says, going silent for a moment.

"And the only thing I could think when I saw her was...what if that had been /you/?" he asked.

"I would have had to explain to Mom and Carter that you died on my watch, when they sent you to me to be safe. That's all I've ever tried to do is keep you safe, Pnnt. It's not about bossing you around, or trying to make you a slave. It's about keeping you from getting killed and having to wonder how I could have stopped it." Rex says.

"I don't like your relationship with Cindy Lord. It's not because she's a girl, either, before you go there...though I guess part of that did kind of catch me off guard. I learned one of the guys I work with is...gay. He and I used to be friends. I didn't realize it, but I guess once I found out, I kind of distanced myself from him, without meaning to. He quit not long after, and I messed up that friendship." Rex tells her, turning the fire downn low on the bacon.

"I think Cindy is a lot like her dad, just in a prettier package. Max Lord is /scum/, Nic. I don't want him to get anywhere near you...but that's not my call. That's yours." he says.

"Just keep your eyes and ears open and don't let Cindy or anyone pressure you into anything you don't want to do. You do that, I'll try to live with the rest of it on my end." Rex finishes.

"I'm actually not gay."

She looked up at Rex for a moment, then looked down at her hands before pulling he edge of one wing in a bit to pick at the feathers.

"No one ever asked; they just assumed."

She looked up at him again. She hadn't expected this at all and she really didn't know quite what to say.

"No one...ever asks me anything. Or really notices I exist unless I cause trouble."

"That's not true, Nic. You never talk to anyone, though. You act out, scream or break things and then no one knows what to say to you." Rex tells her.

"You're my sister and I love you, but I'm not a mind-reader. If you want to go back to Egypt, I can't stop you. But I wish you wouldn't, because I like having you here." Rex says.

"You know, for a long time, I thought Mom and Carter took you to live in Egypt because you were the kid they wanted and it was easier to leave me to my own devices and hope I didn't wreck anything. I used to be jealous of you because you have both of your parents.

I don't have either of mine anymore." Rex says.

"Last I checked, Mom's not dead. Which was this morning, when she called to let me know that she put money in your bank account to cover some of my expenses. Mom...Mom loves you more than me. You're her Little Bird and I'm the complication. I was really surprised when they took me with them to Egypt. I was expecting nun school. They love you. I'm...a short headache.

"How can you possibly like having me here? I eat your food, I piss you off, I sometimes steal your beer, and I'm only half your sister. You wanted to serve me for Thanksgiving. Not that I blame you," she says.

"I scream and break things because I don't think anyone would listen to me if I don't make a lot of noise. Quiet and Hawk doesn't really seem to go together. I don't even know how to tell people things."

"You /do/ realize that the Thanksgiving things was a joke, right? It was just funny to see you cry that one time. If I'd know you'd take it this way, I'd have gotten you a shrink." Rex chuckles.

"And stop with that half-sister bullshit. You're my /sister/. Not half of you." Rex says, sitting down with her.

"Mom loves you a ton, Pnnt. So does Carter. I think Carter would arm up again if something happened to you, because your his baby girl. And yes, you do eat my food and drink my beer, but it's not like I'd let you starve." he says.

"Though, if I am starving and there's nothing else to eat...that whole Thanksgiving thing gets real real fast." he smirks.
