Training
One of the good things about being a YJLA reservist was that Hope got access to all of their training facilities. While the at-home gym that she had at her house was nicely equipped, Hope enjoyed taking advantage of the training simulators and if she could find one, having a sparring partner. Rex was always fun to spar with, but a change of pace never hurt.

Hope was dressed in a simplified version of her armor that she normally wore when she was training, as this one allowed her to move more freely, and her head wasn't covered.

Currently, she was running a training simulator, enjoying smashing some robots with both her fists and her Mega Rod.

He has a lot to tell his mother. Its kind of overwhelming. On the other hand, Svalin's presence, and willingness to deal with things as they come is helping, and he's found himself in a much better mood as they teleport down to his home.

"Mom, you home?"

Home. The dwelling, the four walls and a roof, the place filled with furniture and photos and books and belongings. Lois was there, but it didn't much feel like home these days. There wasn't a room that Lois could go into that wasn't somehow full of Clark and the lack of his presence threw everything into strangeness for her. Except her study. Her study wasn't exempt from the reminders of Mr. Kent; on the contrary it was a place concentrated with him. His clippings from his days as a reporter were there in that room, as were photos, books, his coffee mug. It was Lois' office, but it was every bit their space. As she heard her son's voice--still so much like his father's--Lois looked up at the clock. She'd spent hours in that chair, holding in her hands a crystal of some sort. She couldn't remember what it was exactly; it was something from Krypton, Clark could have said what, but it was his. And he'd given it to her a lifetime ago

She put it back in the desk drawer and got up, straightening her shoulders before heading out to greet her soon.

"I'm here, Jon."

He'd brought company and, with a kind tiredness, she smiled at the woman.

"Hello."

This house... is part of the reason he's been so focused on work lately. He's coping with it all by getting back to work, being Superman. Well, mostly, anyway, as Svalin's presence attests.

"Mom, this is Svalin Sifsdottir. One of a group of visitors from another dimension. They're chasing a time traveler from their home dimension through different times and worlds... apparently he came through here. We're not sure if its... if its any relation to the things going on lately, but its a start. Svalin, this is my mom, Lois Lane. Star reporter for the Daily Planet newspaper."

Svalin bowed respectfully. "It ist a pleasure and honor to meet thee," she said.

Lois wasn't exactly used to being bowed at, but she nodded in acknowledgement. The reason for being there wasn't the weirdst thing Lois had ever heard. It seemed downright tame considering some of Lex Luthor's stunts in the past. Or Darkseid's. Or...she just stopped thinking about it. Time traveling dimension hopper. Good enough for Thursday.

"SIfsdottir...Sif...Norse goddess of the earth if my memory serves? It's an honor on this side as well. Welcome. You two hungry?"

"Starving, actually. She's wanting to see some of this world while she's here. We saw some of Metropolis from above last night. I was thinking of taking her out to Smallville at some point too."

"Harvest," Svalin politely as possible corrected. "Though not anymore. Mine grandmother, Jord ist the goddess of the Earth. The Greeks and others call her Gaea."

Svalin smiled. "Food wouldst be welcomed if it ist no trouble."

"It's no trouble at all. People keep bringing food over here. I guess my infamous inability to cook truly is infamous. Come on." She motioned for them both to follow her to the kitchen where, true to her word there was a lot of food.

"So. We have lasagna, lasagna, shepherd's pie, lasagna, and...something that looks like chili."

Thankfully, Jon has plenty of ability to eat, anyway, and he watched Svalin enough at the burger place to be aware of the Asgardian appetite.

"Can't let it go to waste. I'll try a bit of everything, I guess. If you're not going to eat it all, I could take some over to the Reyes', or to the satellite."

"Anything ist fine," Svalin said. She was not a picky eater. "Cooking ist a skill not all can have," Svalin said. "Momone cannot cook, but Momtwo doth make up for it. I can only cook o'er open flame."

"Jon's father was the cook. I could burn water. And did." Her smile showed itself, but was still weary. "Have a seat Svalin. Jon does have manners and in this house, guests are waited on,"

She gave her son a look out of the corner of her eye a little teasingly. This was the first girl he'd brought home. Ever. Lois knew something was different.

"You two eat all you want and absolutely take some with you. I can't eat all of this and neither can your sister, though she did eat two pies. For breakfast."

Lois moved and got some glasses down.

"Considering your reason for being here I doubt you've done much tourist-type activity but, how do you like our humble corner of the multiverse?"

Jon demonstrates those manners by setting three places while his mom gets the glasses and pulling out a chair for Svalin. As soon as things are set, he also pulls out a chair for his mother, otherwise being mostly quiet while the women chat.

"It ist most interesting," Svalin said as she took the offered seat. "There art cities here that we doth not have where I art from. I wast saddened to hear about the Asgard in this universe. Eternal Ragnarok ist a most unpleasant thought."

"It...yeah that doesn't sound very nice at all. I presume it's not like that where you're from? What is it like, where you're from?"

Lois sat a glass of iced tea down for Svalin and then sat down herself.

Jon opens his mouth, about to say something, then loses the words. Not like him. There's another false start, then he finally manages, "I've been trying to. We went out on a date last night."

The reporter came out of Lois just then and her blue eyes looked first at Jon and then at Svalin with an inquisitive intensity of unparalelled proportions. The inability of Jon's to speak with ease, the blush reaching the girl's cheeks. Lois knows almost everything she needs to know in an instant.

Mom ESP helps, too.

"I see. I have a solid idea of...things. And this is why you've brought her home, son?"

Getting up, she goes to get the full pitcher of tea before returning to the table.

"If he's out of line even once with you, Svalin, you have my permission to punch him to next week."

A smile, one almost entirely untouched by grief, tiptoed to her lips as she sits down.

"You two both seem like you want to talk to me about something."

Jon nods. He should have known this wasn't going to get past his mom, allowing him to speak more in public. He's quiet a few more moments, then meets her gaze. If he's going to own up to everything he did, he's going to do it like a man.

"I would have brought her by anyway. When we went out to see Metropolis, it was just as friends who were both kind of awkward, had never been on a date. I think Svalin's friend was trying to set us up, even though she's not going to be here long."

He takes a deep breath. "It... worked a little too well though. I honestly wasn't expecting anything more to happen than dinner, maybe a couple dates before she had to leave again... she's not going to be here long. Things.. kind of happened. I was going to just introduce her and talk to you later, but... sometimes I think you're the one with the super senses. I... made a mistake. A really big one."

"We both made a mistake," Svalin corrected. She wasn't going to let him take the full blame if anything came out of their time together. She reached over and took Jon's hand. For some reason it was easier to deal with this while holding his hand.

"Your dad always said the same thing," she said. Lois did have an eerie knack for calling things as she saw them, but it really wasn't super senses; it was just Lois. She sighed, looking at the two of them.

"I don't think that you should consider this a mistake. It's unfair to lay that burden on something that you did without a malicious intent or without any desire but desire. I'm not going to lie; I think you were both really irresponsible and that was a bad decision, but...you're being very adult now. And that says a great deal.

"What, if any, are your plans at this point?"

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]first_son
2011-01-14 03:46 am UTC (link)
He nods. "I complete admit that it was irresponsible. We talked and I apologized. We've decided that we still want to see each other, for as long as she's here. So far, they haven't stayed anywhere for more than a week, so its probably not long - which will be tough when she leaves for both of us, but it wouldn't be any easier or any harder if we tried to cut things off now. We probably won't be able to tell anything before then either, but I've told her that I'd do whatever I could to make things as right as possible. And we're making sure not to make the same mistakes again. Still... most of the time will be spent trying to find this Kang, so they can finish their mission and go home, and we can determine if he has anything to do with... the things going on here. I almost died the day we first met - I ran into the person with the lightning - Svalin and her friends saved us. Unfortunately, even having fought him or her, we still don't know who it was. We do now know it was magic, and at least one of his or her allies also uses chaos magic - so we have some leads."

Svalin nodded. "Aye, what Jon hath said. I care deeply for thine son and if I couldst, I wouldst stay here in this world with him. I art Svalin Sifsdottir, daughter of Thor and Sif, and a princess of Asgard. I hath a duty to mine people and that duty doth come before whate'er I want or those I love and care about."

She didn't think about how unfair it was to finally find someone she was interested in, only to know she would not be able to spend much time with him. It was not her. She accepted the path that Fate had chosen for her and she would not turn her back on her people. Putting the people of Asgard first was a princess' duty.

"We wilt find Kang, defeat him and then I wilt return home. Until then I wouldst like to spend as much time as I can with thine son."
