'This is Svalin' and the look in the Valkyrie's eyes gets Jon's attention. There's just something about the woman - she reminds him a little of all the best traits about Corrinna and the Amazons - and yet different too. He's usually not /that/ distractable in a fight. But then he also honestly usually doesn't think about girls that much. Until recently, he's been too pre-occupied with other big thoughts.
There's a flash of light then, and it draws his attention back to the fight.
The bolt of Zeus travels at the literal speed of lightning. There's only the barest of instants to react - and that's all he needs. Vernique is pushed aside, Svalin held away, shielding her with his body as Jon takes the lightning bolt square in the chest - and is once again sent flying, not getting up this time, aside from struggles to rise. At least he's obviously still alive.
