Christmas is a time for family.
Their holidays were not hers, but Mera had been in Arthur's world long enough to appreciate the thought behind the winter festivals. She sent Arthur a gift, a perfect white pearl as large as his thumb, with a golden sheen when warmed and held to the light. It was a simple, beautiful treasure from the heart of his kingdom.

Arthur smiled when he got the gift and knew what he must do. He had gotten Mera an emerald and diamond necklace with the emeralds matching the green of her eyes.

He was not above using the JLA teleporters to get him to the Atlantic ocean and near Atlantis. The former king knew how to sneak into the city and into the royal palace.

He found sleeping in her chambers.

She was beautiful, but moreso when she slept. The stress and worries of life were gone from her face and she looked so peaceful.

He leaned over and gave her a light kiss.

	Mera stretched in her sleep and turned toward the kiss. She opened her eyes and smiled sleepily. It was another dream, a comforting one that her subconscious let her have when she was tired and the day-to-day activities were heavy on her soul. She rolled back over into the pillows with a sigh. 	Mera pressed her forehead to his, more interested in him than a gift, but took it and kissed him again. "I hope that next Christmas will see us closer to a resolution," she said quietly. Which meant he would be gone before morning, and it was safer that way for him. She would take what she could get and her heart would allow for now, but there would be a reckoning in the future. Something, or someone, would have to give.

"Sub Diego does need you," she said without little conviction, her attention focusing inward on the sensations he so effortlessly created.
