Checking In
It occurred to Diana that Bruce probably wouldn't be completely thrilled with her for this, but Diana needed to speak with Hal. It was a complicated situation. The man had been her friend and it wasn't something she was easily going to set aside. However, she had heard Bruce's story and she remembered for herself just how deadly things had been when Hal was a man possessed. She had her reservations and while she was going to be keeping particular watch on Hal Jordan since the League (herself included) had voted to welcome him back, she also wanted to sit down with the man herself. Diana called up Hal and arranged to meet him on his home turf and then arrived early. She hoped this went well.

Hal asked Diana to meet him a cafe near Ferris Air while Carol was preparing for a meeting with none other than Bruce Wayne himself in a few days. The meeting, if it went well, would net her a lucrative government contract that LexAir was also interested in. He didn't like the idea of Carol being in a room with Bruce, but she didn't know about him.

Hal arrives at the cafe on time, wearing blue jeans and his brown leather jacket, smiling at Diana as he shows up.

"Hey, you! Good to see you. To what do I owe the honor of the visit?" Hal asks, a boyish grin tugging at his lips.

"It's an adjustment, Diana; I can't lie about that. I barely remember what happened leading up to my death, but everything now seems so much brighter, so much clearer." Hal says, looking around at Coast City.

"I didn't realize how much of the world I took for granted every day. I'm trying not to let that slip by me again." he says.

"I'm also trying to mend fences where they're broken, but it's proving a lot more difficult in some places than others." Hal says.

	Diana nodded. "To be honest, you didn't just break some fences. Before you left us, you more or less vaporized some of them. It's going to be a very long time before everything settles and I fear that there are some things you never will be able to take back, Hal. "You really don't recall the things that happened?" "No, not really. I mean, I remember really vague things, like fighting with all of you, and Ollie taking the shot that put me down, which I'm glad he had the presence of mind and the courage to do." Hal says quietly.

They take a table in a secluded area of the cafe and Hal relaxes a bit.

"I know I hurt Carol with some of my actions, but she doesn't really want to talk about that." he says.

"I know there's a lot of things I need to make up for, and I plan to do that in time. And you're right; there are a lot of things I can never take back, especially what happened with the Corps. I've got a meeting with the Blue Man Group soon and that's going to be tough.

But I'm going to do it because it has to be done." Hal says, looking straight at Diana.

"I also wanted to thank you for standing up for me during the discussion the other day. I know you, Clark and Bruce are friends, so it couldn't have been easy for you two to go against him." Hal says.

"Well, it certainly has made things difficult, Hal. I'm not going to lie to you; you have a lot to prove. There...were some pretty wretched things you did.

"What do you know about why you more or less lost your mind there for awhile? Like what do you really know, not what you've pieced together?"

It might help figure out how he'd come back. And what had happened to the people who died.

"I really remember what happened with Coast City, how Mongul and the Cyborg destroyed it." Hal says, the pain from that day still as fresh as though it had just happened.

"I remember trying to rebuild the city and give back what was taken from these people. I remember being told that I was using my power for selfish reasons and that I couldn't be trusted to do my job anymore.

After that, it just blurs into one long line of rage and anger. So many images bent out of shape and twisted, then fractured and seen in slivers." Hal looking visibly uncomfortable as he talks about it.

"I remember a voice telling me that it was time for me to go back and then...I woke up in that cemetery." he says, quieting himself as a waitress comes by to take their orders.

He orders a danish and some iced tea, looking to Diana.

"Thanks, Diana. I appreciate that and I intend to get to the bottom of what happened...but I've got another pressing matter to attend to." Hal says.

"I've been ordered to report to Oa ASAP. I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up with 'company' before too much longer." Hal tells her.

"Bruce might get his wish after all about me not being on the team. If I get stripped of my ring, I'm pretty much a fruit vendor. Think he'll come back if that happens?" he asks.

She basically said yes, but she wants a long engagement. It'll give me time to settle back into my life and get things in place. I hope you'll come and share the day with us next year." he says. "Carol saved my life that night, Diana. She came for me when I didn't think I could count on anyone else." Hal says, sipping his iced tea again.

"I wasn't exactly...selective about who I was the last time around. I didn't treat her well. Now, I know what I want and who and that's her. I just have to prove it to her." he says.
