"Yeah," he lied, his eyes searching the ground. He knew his scars were well hid but he felt like they were itching. Absently, he rubbed the spot on his chest and closed his eyes. "I'm fine, it's nothing."

He grinned at her explanation though. "Mormon?" he asked. "They're like... a religious group from Utah babe." He closed his eyes when she pushed his hair behind his ears and smiled.

"Well... they are creepy and scary and you have to be very careful.," he said, his voice was gentle, far away. "If you see one just... just..." he shook his head. "What am I talking about?" he dropped his head into his hands.

She really didn't know what was going on, and vaguely regretted ever bringing up the subject of Twilight. Everyone always had mixed reactions, but she was pretty sure this was the first sad one she'd ever gotten. For the life of her, she couldn't even figure out what about the book made everything sad!

Or was he sad because she was talking about some weird woman, and how hot the vampire guy and the werewolf guy were in the movie? Maybe he was jealous, though why she didn't even know. It wasn't like she was in LA right there, running off to snag herself a date.

"What's wrong?" She asked softly, combing her fingers through his hair a little more as she reached out to touch his hand with her free one. "I don't, like, think I'm ever gonna run off with some movie star, or werewolf. And vampires are all pale and gross."

Maybe that would make him feel better? She hoped so, at least, seeing as she really didn't know what else to do.

It was stupid for him to be acting so silly, he knew it was just fake so why was he taking it so hard? Not everything about werewolves had to do with his family, with his life. He shivered a little in the darkness, the corners of his mouth twitching a little upward at her reassurances. "I know you aint like that," he said quietly.

"I just..." he moved his hands from his face, taking and squeezing Ginger's. He forced a smile and then looked down at their hands as if he could find the answer scribbled on the back of his hand. He took a deep breath and briefly closed his eyes. "Werewolf talk gets me a little... upset because... two summers ago when we were camping my whole family got attacked by one.

With his free hand he lifted the front of his shirt and his hoodie, showing the four long scars that dragged across his chest from his left shoulder to just below his right pectoral. "There are five more on my back just like these," he said quietly.

Pulling his shirt down he sighed. "It slashed us all up with it's claws, bit my brother Felix. He died the next morning," he wiped at his face feeling the wetness from a tear. "Instead of coming together, the whole thing tore us apart. Now my parents are separated and they can barely sit in the same room together for more than twenty minutes without fighting it out."

"There's this... stupid, senseless, guilty weight resting right here," he said putting his hand over his chest. "At any moment I feel like it's just going to break something inside," he shook his head. "I'm sorry, you don't need me to dump all this on you. I just... I guess I didn't want to keep it from you anymore and there are only two other people outside the family that really know what happened."

He looked into the fire for a while, not sure what to say next.

To say she was without words would have been an understatement. She felt as if she'd walked into a biker bar and yelled something like 'Yay Valley' and everyone was staring at her. What sort of girlfriend was she?

"Oh, baby..." she said softly, sliding her arm around her neck to hug him as she pursed her lips. "I'm sorry...I'm so sorry."

It was the only think she could think to say as she held on to him. She squeezed his hand, nuzzling the side of his head gently. "It wasn't your fault, you know? And you don't have to keep it all locked in. You've nothing to apologize for."

Sam hugged her back as best as he could, giving her a little squeeze. He rested his head against hers and sat in the silence for a little while. He tried to let what she said sink in, he tried to think of the right thing to say.

He had been told a thousand times over by his family, by AB, and now by Ginger, that it wasn't his fault. Yet there it was, the guilt, still weighing on him like a one ton weight. He nuzzled her back and kissed the side of her head. "Thanks Ginge," he said finally breaking the silence.

"It's good to talk about it," he said quietly. His two best friends had moved in the past few months and the only other person on campus he trusted with these things with Marina. It had always been a fragile, secret thing and now it was out there for another person to know.

"It was kinda silly for me to get upset about Twilight though," he grinned giving her a silly little look. He had to bounce back to his regular self, it was for his own sanity. There was only so much brooding he was capable of regardless of the severity of the situation.

She smiled at him, holding on to him a little longer as he spoke. She really didn't know what to say to him, and felt terrible that she was happy to see the conversation turn back away from something so serious. She didn't do serious. At least, not very well.

"No worries, baby." She said softly, before laughing a little at his face. At least he was feeling silly. That was something she could handle very well. "Yep, totally. We're team Happy. Not team upset. That team seems pretty lame-o to me."
