Summary: Slightly aggressive food party

Sunny had been cooking and baking ever since she got home from class, soon enough she realized her slightly insane baking frenzy had produced way too much food. She stared at the piles of baked goods and Mexican food when she got a suddenly brilliant idea. She sent a text message to the campus; if you aren't coming to the dance, head over to beauregard, impromptu banquet.

She then put the finishing touches on her cupcakes and started a fresh batch of churros.

Normally a school dance night would mean a night for Gabe to sneak off campus and go to a club while everyone else was worried about dates and matching outfits, but today he had been content to sitting in his room and vegging out. So when he got the text from Sunny, it wasn't as though he had any excuse not to go. And besides, he'd get free food. He got ready and headed over to Beauregard.

He made a beeline for the kitchen once he entered the building, and when he arrived he was unsurprised to see Sunny elbow deep in even more food.

"Sweetie, I think you should wait until people start eating the food you already made before you start making more," he observed with a smirk.

Sunny looked up from her churros with a smile, relieved to see that she would have even a little help. "You're probably right," she laughed a little. "Fresh churro?" she offered, as she flipped one out of the pan.

He was right though, she should probably stop cooking. She turned off the stove and sighed slightly. "No quodpot this week and cooking is my only other therapy," she admitted with a little grin.

"Don't mind if I do," he chimed, slipping further into the room. He picked up a plate and a napkin before heading over to the fresh goodies.

He picked up one of the churros - the biggest one he could pick out - and put it on his plate. "And the company of yours truly too, of course," he admonished playfully.

Sunny laughed and pushed the rest of her batter to the side. She grabbed a plate and started piling the food. Churros, burriots, chocolate dipped fruit. She was pretty pleased with the way her cooking had turned out.

She gave Gabe a little hip bump. "Of course," she laughed. "Your company is very therapeutic," she grinned. "So are sweatpants and churros," she moved over to one of the tables and took a seat with a little grin. "Thanks for coming. I wasn't sure if anyone would show."

Gabe gave her another little smirk. "I know, I'm just that fabulous." He made a little jazz hand motion with his free hand before snickering.

He followed Sunny to the table and sat down across from her. "I noticed, you're like pajama chic." Reaching over, he stole one of the burritos from her plate. "Don't worry, now that I'm here people will start showing up," he grinned as he sat back down.
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 14th, 2011 12:06 am (UTC) (Link)
"You truly are," she grinned. She couldn't be sulky around Gabe, there was something about his personality that just wouldn't allow it.

"Oh yeah," she said looking down at her pajamas. "If I knew I had someone to dress cute for, I totally would have," she laughed, wiggling her little tiger ear at him with her fingers. "We're going to have to bash people out the door because there won't be enough food for all the people who want to hang with you."

"Besides? Who on earth could resist my vegan Mexican cooking?" she giggled.
gaybee From: [info]gaybee Date: April 14th, 2011 02:31 am (UTC) (Link)
He raised a delicate brow at her. "You should always expect the unexpected, Sunny. Honestly, have I taught you nothing in all our years together?" He heaved a dramatic sigh and rolled his eyes up to the ceiling.

"Between my presence and your cooking, it's a wonder that anyone would even think of going to the dance," he said airily, taking a bite of his stolen burrito.
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 14th, 2011 02:53 am (UTC) (Link)
She laughed brightly at that. "I know, I've been so blugh lately though," she grimaced slightly. "Maybe I should start dressing up again though. Maybe looking cute will make me feel better," she chewed thoughtfully on a bite of burrito.

Some freshman from Beauregard meandered into the kitchen. "Hey guys, help yourselves," Sunny called over to them with a wave.

Sunny smiled warmly. Gabe was certainly doing his part in making her feel better about stupid dances and not going to them with a certain Russian boy. "Right? These guys know where it's at," she said. "Who needs dances anyways?"
gaybee From: [info]gaybee Date: April 14th, 2011 03:28 am (UTC) (Link)
"You should, it's the perfect medicine," he agreed, taking another bite. After he finished chewing - and only then - did he continue. "It's the best remedy and best revenge. And if you want any help at all, you think you want to add something, whatever, just give me a shout."

Gabe glanced at the freshmen as they entered, deciding against his usual reaction which was to blow kisses and wink at them. He returned his attention back to Sunny when she spoke again to him. "Exactly. Have you ever seen me at a school dance?"
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 14th, 2011 04:11 am (UTC) (Link)
She grinned at him. "You're right, best remedy. I don't want revenge though, I mean... I did break up with him," she shrugged. "For being a stupid head jerk face," she mumbled under her breath. "Let's get super cute some day and just stomp around campus like we own the place," she smiled across the table at her friend.

She had to think about it. "No, I never have!" she said. "I used to love going to them though, even without a date. It's fun to just dance and bop around," she sighed. She didn't really care what other people thought of her goofy dancing, as long as she was having a good time, that's all that mattered. "What do you do on dance nights anyways? Well, other than come hang out and have delicious food," she grinned.
gaybee From: [info]gaybee Date: April 14th, 2011 04:24 am (UTC) (Link)
"You know what I mean," he said, pointing at her. "You've got to show that you won't let this bring you down. 'Cause remember: You are beautiful no matter what they say, words can't bring you down, you are beautiful in every single way, words can't bring you down, so don't let them bring you down today." He kept a straight face and went right into responding to her again. "Honey, we already do own the place, but we can definitely let them know it again."

He gave a slight smile. "There are other places to get your dance on than at a boring school dance where you're constantly being supervised, and that's where I usually go. You're just lucky that tonight I felt more like vegging out," he finished with a smirk.

Sunny's grin widened until she started giggling and couldn't stop. Finally able to control her giggles she looked at Gabe from across the table. "Thanks, I really needed to hear that. Christina knows her shit. Also, I love you, where have you been all my life?" she took a bit of her burrito and chewed thoughtfully. "A little reminder never hurt anyone right?" she smiled a little, she didn't feel like she owned the place but maybe all she needed was a little encouragement.

"A am very lucky," she beamed at him, sitting back she plucked a chocolate covered cherry from her plate and and popped it into her mouth. "Wait... so... do you like... go downtown to clubs and stuff? That's totally bad ass! How do you get in?!" she asked enthusiastically.
gaybee From: [info]gaybee Date: April 14th, 2011 05:32 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Preach it, sister," he quipped with a grin. "And no problem, I've always wanted to quote a song at someone anyway." He heaved a heavy sigh. "Trying to get Gaga tickets, actually." He took another bite of his burrito, pouting slightly as he chewed. "Nope, these students have become too comfortable and I think it's time to shake things up," he finished with a smirk.

His smirk grew and he gave her a wink, picking up his churro and pointing it at her. "A master never shares his secrets."

"Hallelu!" Sunny replied with a bright giggle. "Ooo, where is she performing?" Sunny asked. "I can never go to the shows I want to go to around here, they're always eighteen and up," she sighed. "I can usually get into the ones at home though when my brother is visiting. His friends just ignore my birthday when I show them my license." She grinned at his next proclamation though. "Agreed, they're become complacent and we simply can not have that," she sighed dramatically. "I've really let my guard down these past few months," she joked.

"Aww," she pouted. "Not even to a lowly grasshopper such as I?" she play pouted but it didn't last for long as her pout slowly became a little grin.

Sadie Hawkins? Fuck that.

It wasn't that he hadn't been asked - he had, by Marianne, only about a thousand times - but school dances were not Ciaran's kind of social mixer. And unfortunately for his little British friend, there wasn't a guilt trip strong enough to convince him to go.

An impromptu banquet, on the other hand, sounded quite tempting.

They didn't say that the way to a man's heart was through his stomach for nothing, and Ciaran was no exception. Food, especially food that had been freshly prepared by someone else was an offer that he just couldn't turn away from.

And so he traipsed over to Beauregard house, more concerned with what was on the menu than who might be there.

Sunny had been having a good time, after enjoying her meal and spending some time with Gabe she started making the rounds. She made sure there was plenty of food and if she started running low on something she just got behind the stove again and started cooking. She had just pulled a batch of bean enchiladas out of the oven when she saw Ciaran walking in. "Hey," she said waving at him.

"Want an enchilada? Warm and fresh out of the oven," she said, taking off her oven mitts.
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 17th, 2011 06:59 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Hi," he replied. Was this the hostess then? Ciaran looked at the girl, but he didn't recognise her save for perhaps the odd passing in the hallway. She was tall though, really tall. She was probably one of the upper years.

That explained why he hadn't spoken to her before.

Ciaran's ears perked at 'warm' and 'fresh out of the oven'. He'd never had enchiladas before, but there was a first time for everything. Especially if they were ready now. "Yeah, okay."
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 17th, 2011 07:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
She plated him an enchilada and handed it over. She thought she recognized him but she just could not put a name to the face which she was normally quite good at. "I'm Sunny," she introduced herself, figuring if she couldn't recall his name it was because she just didn't know it.

"There's plenty more where that came from too," she said pouring herself a cup of tea and stepping away from the stove.
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 17th, 2011 07:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
It didn't take Ciaran long to find a fork and commence shovelling. He ate around the outside first, where it was coolest, cutting a chunk off and wedging it onto his fork before stuffing it into his face.

"M'Ciaran," said Ciaran, making light work of the food Sunny had given him.
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 17th, 2011 07:55 pm (UTC) (Link)
"It's nice to meet you Ciaran," she said smiling, he looked like he was at least enjoying the food and that was really what the night was all about. She pushed a plate of churros and chocolate dipped fruits towards him from across the counter before sipping on her tea.

She couldn't help but laugh a little. "I don't think I've ever seen anyone eat this fast," she grinned.
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 17th, 2011 08:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
He scraped his fork across his plate after the last mouthful, making sure that nothing had been left over. Ciaran had seen more than one of those enchilada things come out of the oven and and was about to ask where the rest of them had gone when he realised that Sunny was pushing another plate in front of him.

Abandoning his empty plate on the side, Ciaran picked up one of the churros, smiling a bit at Sunny.

He didn't eat that fast...did he?

"I didn't have much for lunch," he said, taking a bite. "I uh, have a good appetite."
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 17th, 2011 08:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
"It's alright," she said with a little shrug. "I'm an over zealous cook," she said before taking another sip of tea. "Did you want another enchilada?" she asked taking his first plate back and already working on shoveling another one of the cheesy things onto his plate.

"What house are you in?" she asked curiously. "I feel like I've seen you around," she said, still trying to place his face.
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 24th, 2011 06:11 pm (UTC) (Link)
Ciaran looked between the food he had in his hand and the food that Sunny had put onto his plate; a tough decision. He finished off his one of the churros he'd picked up and went back to the enchilada. He could always eat the others later.

"Rienzi," Ciaran answered. "I started last September. I was at Colorado Prep before that."
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 24th, 2011 06:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Oh!" she said cheerfully. "You're a transfer student. How do you like it so far?" she asked curiously. "Personally I think it's too effin hot and I prefer my winters with snow but what are you gonna do?" she asked with a little shrug.
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 24th, 2011 06:33 pm (UTC) (Link)
Ciaran gave a shrug as he started on his enchilada. "It sucks. I preferred Denver." Just as many fights, but at least nobody there thought he was a murderer.

"The winters are colder up there, but spring and summer are a lot like it is here. I like the cold weather better."
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 24th, 2011 06:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
She laughed a bit sardonically. "Sometimes I wish I could just... go back to New York," she shrugged. "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger though, right? Or some stupid shit like that," she said flinging her spatula a bit at some of the food that was still cooking on the stove.

"I like the cold too," she agreed. "You can always get warmer by adding layers but there just comes a certain point where you can't cool off anymore," she gave a little laugh. "You just can't win."
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 24th, 2011 07:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
Ciaran wasn't so sure that being at CCI was making him any stronger than he was in Colorado. "I still have two more years here," he muttered, getting back to his enchilada. He had to admit, the girl could cook. This had to be better than the stale nibbles being served up at the school dance.

"I don't have the right footwear for the weather here," he added. "Guess I'll have to wear my sneakers when it gets warmer."
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 24th, 2011 07:10 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Two years?" she asked her eyes getting wide. "That sucks," she shook her head. "I've only got one after this and I'm getting out of here. Back north where I belong," she smiled whimsically. "I want to open a bakery," she said proudly.

"I usually run around barefoot," she grinned. "I don't know how you're going to survive the warm weather in sneakers. Maybe a cooling spell," she suggested.
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 24th, 2011 07:27 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Yeah, well." He shifted awkwardly. "I'm in grade 10." Ciaran turned his attention back to finishing what was on his plate. "My uncle works at a dragon reserve in Romania, I went to see it when I was fourteen. I wanna do something like that."

He gave Sunny a half smile. "I'll get some lo tops. I don't get that overheated."
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 24th, 2011 07:35 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I wouldn't have guessed that," she said, pulling a stool over to sit. "Dragons sound pretty cool though," she nodded. "Dangerous though," she added her eyes getting bigger. "I bet you could talk to professor Baer and see about getting an apprenticeship or something when you graduate," she took a sip of tea.

She smiled, feeling a little silly. "That's probably a good idea," she laughed in spite of herself. "I forget other people are more adjusted to heat than I am. My boyfr..." she stopped herself and swallowed hard. Fuck. "My ex practically lives in the desert," she said softly. "Sucks for him," she tried to shrug nonchalantly but just didn't have it in her to act like everything was fine and dandy.
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 24th, 2011 08:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I got held back," he mumbled, setting his empty plate down. Picking up another one of the churros, he continued to munch. "I could, but my uncle could probably get me one too. He's worked at the reserve for years. Plus I'd be closer to some of my family, and there's a few Bulgarian minorities living in Romania, so everything wouldn't be totally alien there." He licked his fingers. "And it's dangerous, yeah, but you just have to be careful."

Ciaran picked up a piece of fruit dipped in chocolate and ate it. She seemed kind of...sad all of a sudden. "My ex lives in Utah. My ex best friend lives there too."
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 24th, 2011 09:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Ah," she said understanding. "That's true," she nodded moving right along. "It might be nice to be near family," she smiled warmly. "I'm sure you'll learn all the safety techniques along the way. Just watch your fingers," she grinned. She was pretty pleased to see that he was enjoying the food so much.

She nodded and forced a smile. "Must be hard, the distance and everything." She figured her distance from Anastas would help over the summer but right now it was just hard. "Though distance makes the getting over it part easier," she shrugged.
cantspell From: [info]cantspell Date: April 30th, 2011 07:07 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Well yeah. They're pretty into their food too. My grandma cooks like she's feeding the whole village." He gave Sunny a half-smile, glad she hadn't probed any further into why he'd been kept behind. "I don't think it's my fingers I need to worry about as much as...like, my limbs," he replied, continuing to pick at the fruit. "But yeah, I guess I could learn a lot."

Snacking on a couple more churros, Ciaran shrugged his shoulders. "Her being a bitch helps me get over it. Someone shows you their true colours and if they suck? You have to be pretty pleased that things ended when they did. It feels shitty but you just dodged a bullet, so you know, you're better off in the end."
soleada From: [info]soleada Date: April 30th, 2011 08:50 pm (UTC) (Link)
Sunny laughed. "I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who cooks too much," she grinned. "That's true," she said laughing despite herself. "Limbs are bigger targets than fingers I suppose."

She listened and nodded but she didn't feel like she was better off, she felt worse somehow. She like she was abandoning Stas. "I'm still in the feeling shitty phase, i.e. all the cooking," she admitted. "I just... ugh... boys," she flipped her spatula back a little, flipping some vegan cheese behind her on accident.
