Characters: Erica & Malachi. Setting: Tuesday evening, student kitchen area. Rating: Probably SFW. Summary: Erica is making gluten-free pizza and brownies. They will be gritty and.. rice-floury. But it's not her fault. :[ Food preparation was the only thing in Erica's whole life where she was as thorough with cleaning up as her little brother was with everything. Being able to use the student kitchen was great, it gave her a chance to prepare food for herself whenever she wanted, but sharing it with all of those other kids.. well, that was the tricky part. There always seemed like there was one mess or another to mop up, and half of the time, she didn't have a choice. There were often ingredients left laying around that she had to clean up before putting her own food down. It only took the slightest contamination to make her sick, and when you had a whole bunch of messy teenagers in one kitchen whenever they wanted without strict supervision, contamination was unavoidable. Whomever had been in here before she got there today hadn't exactly been precise with their baking. She had spent almost twenty minutes scrubbing down, wiping off the counter surfaces, appliances, and anything else that had gotten splattered with a generous helping of mysterious white powder. It could have been corn starch, maybe baking powder, but there was really no taking chances. It wasn't like she was risking tasting to see. Once her area was satisfactorily cleaned, the dark-haired girl finally set out her supplies. She kept her own mixing bowls and utensils; it was easier than sharing, and keeping them to herself kept other people from whipping up a big bowl of something she couldn't eat. It would only take one person to make a big bowl of regular cookies or something, and forget to wipe down. Humming slightly to herself as she tied her apron strings, Erica was oblivious to the room around her, and whether or not anybody was coming or going. If they wanted to use the kitchen, they'd just have to wait their turn, wouldn't they? Pouring her first mix into her biggest bowl, she moved over to grab a bottle of vegetable oil, measuring it out carefully with her spoons, still totally in her own world. Malachi had been in the mood for a good ol homemade blackberry pie for the past few days and he just couldn’t stop thinking about it. It seemed like it took forever for his last period class to be over with; when they were dismissed, Mal went straight to his Harley in the parking lot and peeled off to the closest market with fresh produce. The blackberries were pricey, but he picked them up anyway, plus a few other ingredients that the school kitchen didn’t supply. Hurrying back to his room, Mal changed out of his uniform and dressed in his usual jeans and tee shirt ensemble. Then, he tossed his cooking supplies and his apron in a backpack and headed down to the kitchen. He loved this time of day, because he usually had the kitchen all to himself. During the day, the school kitchen was chaotic, to say the least; he run his fingers through his dark hair, thinking painful thoughts of the new students who had no cooking skills at all. How many times had the class been put to scrubbing burnt fill in the blank out of the pots and pans? All prepared now, Mal headed for the kitchen, already tasting his blackberry pie. Just entering the kitchen doors, he heard humming…female humming, So, I won’t be alone, after all, he mused. Peeking around a bank of cabinets, Mal caught site of a very cute dark-haired girl, Well, now, looks like maybe I should rethink that thing about wanting to cook alone, he thought with a grin. Walking up next to the girl, Malachi looked down at her and smiled, “Hey, how’s it goin’? I see you bring your own equipment too…”, he held out his backpack and patted it, “…cool apron!”, he pointed to her KISS apron and grinned. “My name’s Malachi Ryder…you can call me Mal…I hope you don’t mind a little company…”, he started unpacking his own bowls, spoons, measuring cups, etc, as he talked, “…I won’t get in your way.” He gave her a serious look, “I needed a blackberry pie.”

Erica was somewhat surprised to hear another voice, turning quickly when Malachi entered and spoke to her. She gave him a once over, a quick flick of her eyes, from head to toe. It was a skeptical look, but a lazy smile quickly came over her face as she shrugged her shoulders a little. "Hey," she said simply, smiling a little wider when he commented about the equipment. "I don't have much of a choice. I can't use half of the stuff they have here, so it's kind of a shitty deal. No one knows how to clean up after themselves well enough.. and besides, they don't even provide aprons as boss as this," she explained, leaning back against the counter as she spoke, still watching him.
She realized she vaguely recognized him. He played Quodpot, but for who.. Sonnier maybe? No, that wasn't it. Maybe it was Beauregard. Yes, that had to be it, she was sure of it. Handsome enough, but a rival no less. "Just don't get flour all over my side of the kitchen, and I won't be forced to.. you know, destroy you on the field next time we play," she joked, straightening up long enough to extend a hand to him. "Erica, by the way. Redd."

When Malachi noticed that the cute girl was looking him over, he turned to face her, letting her get a good look; hey, he checked out girls all the time, he had to respect when they wanted to check him out. Come to think of it, he was checking her out and enjoying the experience.
Setting his bowls up and laying out his ingredients, Mal began opening cabinets, pulling out the school supplied ingredients he would use, “Man, this place looks great. You cleaned in here, didn’t you?”, he asked with a smile. His smile just widened when she boasted about her apron, “No way. That is one fuckin’ awesome apron…I mean…sorry…great apron”, he laughed. “Looks awful cute on you too”, he added, as he emptied his blackberries into a bowl to wash.
“Hey, I’m no messy boy…”, he winked, “…in the kitchen anyway” He looked at her for a moment when she mentioned the field…and then his face lit up, “I knew that I knew you from somewhere!”, he pointed his finger, “Quodpot! Lalaurie! You are a sophomore!” In his thoughts, Mal was thinking, What the fuck? What is it with me and sophomores this week? Taking Erica’s hand, he kissed the back of it and replied, “Enchanted, Erica, but, just as we smacked down Rienzi in our last game, I can show your team no mercy when next we play!” He used a silly French accent and then bowed, before grinning and going back to washing his berries in the sink.

Erica laughed a little, rolling her eyes as he kissed the back of her hand. "Who doesn't beat Rienzi? You guys don't stand a freaking chance up against us. Addy is really pushin us hard this year, we're ripe to take the cup and everything," she replied to him, as she returned to her side of the counter and began to crack a couple of eggs for her brownie mix. She already had the over preheating, and a greased pan set out.
"Anyway, Mal.. I don't think I've seen you around much, other than on the field. Where do you hang out?"
She more so meant with whom did he hang out. Erica liked to bide her time between all of the houses, she had friends everywhere, but she had never really taken notice of him. He was really quite fit, and a pouty face. She loved a good pouty face.

Malachi grinned, glad that Erica knew he was goofin’, with the hand kissing and stuff. When she started bragging on her team and talking about how they were going to take the cup, He showed her the palm of his hand, “Pffft! Please, little girl! That smack talk don’t rattle my cage. You’re gonna have to ride your broom, not your mouth to victory!”
In a large bowl, Mal tossed the blackberries, sugar, flour, tapioca, lemon zest and a few spices. Then he began to roll out his dough for his piecrust, “I’m around, angel. I go out on my bike, I hang out with friends in their rooms, I go to parties and, if I get really bored, I drop by detention. What about you?”
This Erica chick was really cute, Malachi thought, trying to check her out while she wasn’t looking. He wondered if she knew Colby. Twice this week he had run into hot sophomore girls…was God trying to tell him something? This amused him. Yeah, the big guy was real interested in getting him laid…especially with girls two years younger than him. Why did those two years seem like five? Placing the bottom crust in his pie pan, he looked over and gave Erica a wink.

Erica laughed loudly, glancing over her shoulder at him with raised eyebrows for a moment, before returning attention to mixing up her batter. She was cradling the bowl in the crook of her elbow, and mixing furiously with the other arm. "You obviously haven't watched me play closely enough. I might run my mouth, but I can back it up," she teased.
When he asked about where she hung out, she gave her best nonchalant shrug. "Same, you know, like around. I go where my whims and wants take me, that sorta thing. I'm kind of disappointed I haven't run into you sooner.. then again, I'm not really super close with any Beauregards, now that I think about it. You've gotta show me how cool you are or you'll let your house down," she commented idly, focusing on scraping the sides of her bowl as she spoke.
"I mean, I've got a best friend in Rienzi, and a best friend in Lalaurie, and some buddies in both but.. Sonnier and Beau are coming up kinda short. You gotta represent!"

Malachi raised his eyebrows as well and grinned as Erica continued to swagger, “RAWWWWR!”, he growled, “I do love a woman with spunk!” he placed the pie crust in the pan and spooned in the filling, winking at Erica from over his own broad shoulder.
Crossing strips of dough over the top of the pie, dimples formed in Mal’s cheeks as he grinned, incredulous at the girl’s nerve, “Baby, not to brag, but I have some pretty big balls and I think you might just be carrying a pair that’s even bigger!”, he chuckled and shook his head, “I just meet you and you’re tellin’ me I have to prove to you how cool I am? Baby, this boy don’t roll like that. You either like me or you don’t.”
Sliding his pie in the oven, Mal chuckled, “Represent…hah…fuck that! I represent when I’m on the Quodpot field. My free time is mine and they can blo…never mind”, he figured he shouldn’t be talking like that to a sophomore girl, “…sorry.”
Leaning back against the counter, Mal crossed his arms and asked, “So, what sophomore boy is man enough to be dating you?”

Erica laughed loudly, pouring the brownie batter into her pan, and grabbing up her spatula to begin smoothing it over. "I think I like you, then. I definitely think so. I mean, I'm a pretty big fan of a man with.. spunk, too."
When he questioned her about a boyfriend, the dark-haired girl quickly shook her head. "No sophomore boy," she corrected him. "No boy," she added, after a second thought. "I pretty much do my own thing. Boyfriends are kind of a drag. They get whiny, what can I say? If I wanted emotional, I'd date a girl."
Moving over to check on another bowl, where she had her pizza dough rising, she peered in at it while still speaking to Mal. "What about you? I bet you're just beating the women off with sticks, right?" she joked.

When Erica laughed liked she did, Malachi couldn’t help but laugh too, “That’s right! That’s right! I’m spunKEE boy!”, he chuckled, flexing his biceps. Then, pulling a serious mask over his grin, he informed her, “…and I’m glad that you like me, cause I think I kinda like you too!”
“Whiny? You’ve dated whiny boys?”, he scooted close and gave her a one-armed hug, “Poor baby…or maybe I should feel sorry for that poor Joe. I’ll bet you chewed him up and spit him out.” Suddenly, when she spoke of dating a girl, Mal scrunched his face up, “Whoa…you’ve dated a girl? Was she cute?”
Malachi’s eyebrow arched and he snickered, “Hah! You might think I’m beating them off with sticks!”, then he got a funny look on his face, “Let’s just say I do well on the party circuit.”
