There was nothing better than a surprise care package from home. Nothing. Well... maybe something, if this was a usual care package. Vinnie's mother normally sent him baked goods, or new socks, or pictures of his siblings and some candy, just to show she missed him and she cared. There were definitely some things better than that.
But not for this one.
Nona must have cooked too... In this package was a veritable feast. Homemade pasta with homemade sauce, hand-made meatballs and sausage, Good crusty Italian bread and garlic bread, antipasto, bread sticks, tiramisu, zeppolis, and an assortment of other goodies were packed carefully into a box, notes from his family, jars of sauce, and an assortment of ingredients for making his own food. It was like Italian heaven in a box. The only thing missing was a soccer ball. Vinnie's mouth had watered juts looking at everything.
Naturally that night he set himself up with food in a corner of the house common room, instead of seeing what culinary adventure he could go on in the cafeteria. It was way, way more food than he could eat (even though the Beauregard boy could eat quite a bit) but Vinnie didn't mind. Leftovers were always amazing.
