Tell a Friend
Characters: Leon and Sibyl
Setting: Sonnier common area, evening
Content: SFW, all that
Summary: Leon is minding his manners as best he can this week, sticking to himself (and Addy when she demands it). He's not been feeling to hot lately, on top of it. Thus he's skipping out on the game.

It was nice having the building to yourself, or mostly to yourself. With over ninety percent of the dorm at the game, cheering their house team on, it was as good as empty in that place. It made sneaking into the kitchen area to heat up burrito's and then flopping in a huge, comfortable chair in the commons area rather relaxing. He even brought a book, Frisk by Dennis Cooper, which he settled down to read in the soft lamp light of the room.

For the first time in a while, Leon felt at home with himself, having neither succumbed to the desire to be high, nor to drink himself into a stupor. It was an unusually calm moment for him, be it the simple solitude of the dorms, or the warm burrito he nibbled on from time to time. Or maybe it was the fact that he was reading a book for something other than class, and that despite the book cover that cleverly masked what book it was, he wasn't worried about what others would see and think.

At least not right now.

His cellphone sat on the table next to him as he tossed a leg over one chair arm. His ipod was playing a selection of instrumental arrangements, as he tapped his foot against the air. Tonight was a good night, there was no doubt in his mind about that.

With pretty much everyone being gone for the game, Sibyl suspected that the common room was going to be empty. Normally she went to some of the Quodpot games, and Sonnier's at least, but she hadn't been feeling so hot that morning and decided to take it easy. The last thing she needed was for something to happen while she was surrounded by a whole bunch of people.

With a book in hand, something she was rereading for at least the third time, Sibyl headed down towards the room she figured would be empty. She found herself surprised when she reached it, though, finding that someone else had decided to take the advantage that night.

She hadn't seen Leon around much and while they were friends, they weren't necessarily close, so she didn't usually seek him out unless absolutely necessary. Or if she was absolutely bored.

The redhead made her way over to the couch, giving her fellow classmate plenty of room, and took a seat on the end closest to him. It was possible he was in no mood to chat at all, but she placed herself where she did just in case. Even so, she offered him a light smile as she crossed one leg over the other and set the book down for the moment. "I see I'm not the only one still hanging around here."

Leon looked up as a shadow crossed his path, and he pulled one of the ear buds out and smiled a little. Sibyl wasn't he closest of friends (of course, he didn't really have many of those to begin with), but they were on good terms. One of the few he was ever on good terms with.

"Wasn't feeling the urge to go," he admitted with a rye sort of smirk. "Bloody bore, anyway. Can't say I ever enjoy those games. Only go because Gael gets offended if I don't."

Which was his polite way of asking that she never mention this. He could bribe a lower classman into saying Leon was sat there with them through the game, if he had to. It wasn't like Gael expected him to actively watch the game to start with.

"What are you reading?"

She hadn't really noticed that Leon had headphones in until he took one of the earbuds out. Sibyl got the hint loud and clear that she was to say nothing to his twin, and marked it with a nod and a, "Gotcha".

"I go to a few. It's too much like regular football, just higher up and with an exploding ball." She gave a small shrug of 'oh well' and sat back in the couch, letting herself sink into the cushions.

The book was held up so that he could see the blue cover as she answered, "Some of the Drizzt Do'Urden series by R.A. Salvatore. I haven't read it in a while." Sibyl noticed that he had a book in his hand too, and nodded to it with her chin as she set hers back down. "What's on your reading menu?"

"Didn't much far for American football to start," he added with a grin, looking at her book carefully. He'd never been one for fantasy novels, though he sometimes flipped through their pages. Swords and magic wasn't really that far of a leap from their reality, which made it much harder to enjoy. Particularly when he took exception to how magic users generally went about their business.

He looked back at his book, though, snorting a little. "Uh, nothing much. Just some book my grandmother sent. You know, one you can't find over here in the States." Which was an utter lie. He'd found it at a large chained book store and thumbed through it before going home to order it online. He didn't even understand why possessed him to buy it, seeing that nothing in the story held any particular interest. And it was horribly graphic, enough so that he sometimes quit reading because he felt uneasy.

"Bit graphic, really," he said after a bit. "Don't even know why I keep reading. Just...can't seem to stop myself."

Lying or not, Sibyl nodded at little at his answer. She had the feeling that Leon and herself did not share a similar taste in books, so she doubted she would have known of it even if it wasn't some book sent over from his grandmother.

"Well, I suppose you keep reading because there's something in the book that still holds your interest. Other than the graphic bits." She gave a small shrug and glanced down at her own book for a moment before looking back to her classmate. "Either that or you're one of those people who absolutely need to finish any book they start, no matter how good or bad it may be."

"The latter seems more apt," he mused a little, tilting his head to the side as he shifted on the chair. He bounced his foot in the air a bit, chewing his lip as he looked absently at the page. "Do you think things get better once you graduate this place?"

He knew it was a random sort of question, but was curious as he stared off into the oblivion. It wasn't even that being at school was terrible, either. It was the simple state of 'child but not' that was vexing. That and the conflicting emotions that ran amok in day to day life.

Most people attending CCI seemed content with their lives, happy with general things while vexed by only the trivial. But Leon had a certain sort of loathing for this in between limbo, as if it were nothing more than a prelude to hell, waiting for him to take that one last unfortunate misstep.

Sibyl blinked at the question, which was certainly a bit random, but took a moment to think it over. Her eyes rested absently on the coffee table not to far out of her reach as she thought.

She had to admit that she thought the majority of the world was just plain bad. There were too many people that made a bad example of human beings. Some were violent, some were just hateful, some were so closed-minded to the point they were just negative. There were much less people out there that were truly good, and ones that made her proud on occasion. Then there were just people in the middle.

With everything going on that she saw in the news, it all seemed rather dismal. That certainly colored her answer when she finally replied, leaving her eyes on the table. "I'm not putting my hopes in it. I suppose it's a matter of coming out better than going in, and succeeding in doing what makes you happy that it rests on. It'll be as good as we make it."

"I guess." He mused for a moment in silence. He wasn't really much of a chatter, he hadn't been since his first year in Upper Academy, but for some reason he felt chatty right now.

"My uncle was part of the War back in England, you know." He said after a moment, "my mum hates him for it, but I guess it was just one of those things. He was always a dark wizard, half of Europe has dark wizards in their family..." That was a bit rambly, he realized, shaking his head as he sat up and moved his legs around in front of him.

"What I mean, is...it just seems like here are more bad than good in the world." He frowned a little, before laughing softly at himself, "makes that whole 'it gets better' slogan seem rather stupid, yeah?"
