"Well no shit it wasn't on purpose," she pushed his arm gently. "But don't pretend it's not a thing, it's a thing. It shouldn't have been but it was and... I don't know why," she took a long drag on her cigarette and sighed.
"What happened? Why are we acting so fucking weird?" she dropped her head into her hands, staring at the toes of her boots.
"We were really drunk," Gray offered. But they were always really drunk. It was a poor excuse. He flicked ash absently near his sneakers. He felt sullen; a promising night had suddenly turned into share time. He offered her a smirk and a shrug, billowing smoke with a sharp sigh.
"Bad night, I guess?" He laughed. It was half-hearted, weak, but he was intent to brush off this incident like it never happened. God forbid he would have to talk more about it.
She threw her shoulder into his and laughed. "No shit we were drunk. I was having a good night up until that point too," she teased. "Listen Grey, I'm not trying to be a downer, I'm just trying to get back to where we were."
"We fucked up, so let's make it right, okay?" She paused for a bit. "Douche bag," she added with a grin.
"Yeah, yeah." Gray laughed and shook his head, taking a drag from his cigarette. Michiko had a tendency to dredge things up, but at least she was cool about it. Some girls weren't. Most girls weren't. But then, Michiko was practically one of the guys--minus the whole being a hot chick thing.
"Never happened, right?" He shrugged. Gray fixated on blowing smoke rings rather than apologizing, or dealing with the problem. Did it have to be a problem? He didn't think so.
"Wrong. It did happen," she poked him in the ribs. "And you've been running around corners and dodging me since, don't try to play it off like you haven't. It was a problem, so maybe an apology from both of us would be a good place to start. And secondly, a plan to never be that drunk and together with no one else around."
Gray jumped slightly as she poked him, sighed, swallowed audibly, and nodded a few times to Michiko without saying much of anything. He fidgeted, flicking ash off his cigarette with his opposite hand, instead of ashing it properly.
"Tabarnak!" Gray winced, pulling away from Michiko's surprisingly vice-like grip. He cradled his ear, pouting at her as she apologized to him.
"Me too," He shrugged, looking down at the ground. "I mean. I--" His voice cracked. "...I'm sorry." He finally mumbled. That was harder than it should have been.
