Bastian had opened his mouth to greet the stranger and was left mouth agape as he tried to get a word in edgeways. Smiling ruefully Bas set his beer down and rubbed his chin thoughtfuly.
"Yes, I am new" he started with, his accent thick, and began listing off her questions on his fingers. "My name is Bastian, I am from Europe." He held his hand out to shake Sunny's warmly. "I just started. Is it always this... lively?"
She flushed even redder and accepted his hand. "It's nice to meet you," she said more slowly. "My name's Sunny." He had a very nice accent and she had to remind herself that it was hard enough for Americans to understand an excitable American girl.
"It gets pretty nuts around here, especially when we first get back," she grinned. "Lots of summer tension. Too much time cooped up inside."
Bas himself was blushing by the time he pulled his hand back and eagerly offered Sunny a beer, flicking the cap off with his wand. "That is a nice name. Never met a Sunny before" he remarked.
Secret parties on campus were probably the most alien thing to Bas. There were never parties at Durmstrang. "What happens if you are caught?"
"Oh thank you!" she said accepting the beer. She took a little sip and grinned. "And thanks," she said brightly. "It's really Sol but in Spanish it means sun..." she trailed off and looked guilty again. "Sorry, I tend to ramble," she admitted pushing her hair behind her ears.
"If we get caught?" she snorted. "Well... if we get caught we're all in detention but that's only happened a few times, we started putting wards up around the parties after that though. Did you... did you not have parties at your old school?"
Bastian shook his head. "It only rambles if it is not interesting" he offered with a kind smile. He thought back to his time at school, there had certainly never been a party like this.
"Formal parties. With dress robes and teachers. But not often, there were too many fights." He giggled slightly. "We would fight over who dances with the girl. We only had maybe twenty in the whole place!" He leaned a little closer to Sunny as if the Durmstrang girls would overhear him. "They were not even the best to look at" he added, giggling again. "This is my first real party, perhaps?"
Sunny returned his smile, he was terribly sweet.
"I'm surprised Durmstrang even had that many!" she said exctiedly. She couldn't help but giggle. "Well then you would be quiet pleased to know that there are plenty of ladies at this institution," she said brightly. "And most of them love to dance." "Oh, well then welcome to the American school system," she said grandly. "Where partying is more important than getting homework done," she grinned. "It's almost a miracle that anyone gets passing marks."
"Many had more chin hairs than the boys" Bas joked. He straightened up slightly and fixed his collar.
"Am I doing well at my first party? I was thinking before you came to go back and do some homework, but I'm having a better time now!"
Sunny snorted. "They sound quite lovely in their own right," she laughed brightly and took a sip of her beer. "Probably pretty scary on the quodpot field... oh! Europe really doesn't do quodpot does it?" she laughed at herself.
"You're doing just fine," she said patting his shoulder and smiling warmly. "Don't be afraid to let loose a little," she encouraged him. "School will just eat you alive if you don't have a little fun."
"Quidditch" Bas said brightly. "My father took me to the world cup when it was held in Turkey. We saw Ireland against France. It lasted twelve hours" he recalled. "I do not know much Quodpot. Only what my dorm tell me. Do you play?"
"That's nuts! I never been to a world cup before but my dad took me to a Diablos quodpot game one summer. Did you like it?" she beamed. "I do! I'm captain of my team this year and I was last year too," she said sitting up straighter. "We were the champions last year," she was almost bursting with pride.
Bastian looked impressed and gave a low whistle. "Now that is something to be proud of. Surely you will be champions again with you returning for captain! Perhaps your team is the one I should cheer for next game?"
"Well thanks," she said blushing all over again. "That would be fantastic!" she said brightly. "My team is Appalachia, we play against Roanoke in two weeks exactly," she nodded. "I'm super excited, I already have my team running drills," she giggled.
Bas dug his cell out of his pocket and typed the date into it with furrowed concentration. "I will not forget! It is good for me to leave my bedroom sometimes anyway."
Sunny couldn't help but laugh. "It is good," she said brightly. "You must be one of those guys that's always got his nose in a book huh?" she asked sweetly. "It's okay, my ma' called the other day 'n yelled at me 'cause my little brother called and told her I was studying too much again," she laughed.
