To say that Hunter lived for moments of great responsibility was a bit of a stretch, but there was still that lingering reason why she had becoming an auror. Nearly there now, she reminded herself, as the explosion suddenly shook the ground behind her. She had scarcely paying attention to the speech, her arms crossed and back slouched as she chewed gum loudly and half-listened.

Panic only seemed to take a few seconds to set in though, and Hunter whipped around to see the direction, watching the flames in the parking lot. She was nearly pushed over by a screaming woman running that way. "Holy fuck," she half-whispered. Three immediate thoughts came to mind; where was Michi, how was her truck, and where did she start.

They had done drills and simulations in their labs, but this was a real life shitstorm. She could see a few people with blood on them, one boy cradling his face as it dripped between his fingers. She was surprised that it turned her stomach a bit. How much of her own blood had she seen? But it was different when it was some kid.

Without really taking time to wonder what had actually happened, Hunter assured Mack and Kia that she'd be back 'in a jiff', taking off toward the parking lot at full speed. People were already gathering around, faculty and some of the instructors from the LAW that taught her auror training. She ignored them mostly, working her way along and pulling people to their feet, making sure no one was dead.

She wasn't sure what it was, but something about helping people always brought out the wannabe hero in her. The usual goofy smile wasn't even on her face while she worked, rushing people along as she saw they were okay, casting quick spells to heal up wounds as she found them.

She had been in the process of helping someone to stand up and head back to the field, when she looked up and noticed her truck. It was a few parking spaces away from her, and the explosion. There was a slightly smoking and charred side mirror from the exploded car sticking right out of her windshield. Around it, though it was stuck, all of the other glass had begun to spread into a spiderweb of cracks.

"Oh fuckin' come on!" the blonde shouted, clutching her face with open palms as she rushed over to survey the damage. The windshield was definitely toast. "Son of a whore motherfucker bitch fuck! Goddamnit!"

Mackenzie had been practically asleep before the explosion had rocked the ground underneath her. She was instantly on her feet with her wand in her hand, her head wiping around to locate the direction of the danger. Her mouth fell open as she saw the flames and smoke in the parking lot, what the hell was going on? She could sense Hunter react next to her and wasn't surprised when the girl sprinted off towards the parking lot. It was usually Hunter who ran into the situation first, half of the time without really thinking. Mackenzie knew she couldn't leave Hunter alone for too long and turned to Kia who was also on her feet behind her.

"You okay?" She asked her older sister, doing a quick scan of the woman to look for any injury. Once Kia had assured her that she was just a little shaken up, the argument of who was going to help the wounded started. She knew Kia would want to help, it was part of the contract she had signed as a mediwitch. She was required by wizard law to assist in an emergency. Mackenzie didn't want her older sister to get hurt however, she wasn't trained to deal with danger the way the younger blonde was. Even if Mackenzie wasn't done with her auror training, she knew a lot more than Kia. "Look, you stay here okay? Get a safe place cleared and Hunt and I will bring you people who need help!"

Not waiting for Kia to protest again, Mackenzie sprinted off in the direction she had seen Hunter run. She ran right into a few people who were clutching at bleeding wounds. She did her best to patch them up before pointing them in the direction of her sister. She would have stopped to do more but she was starting to worry about her taller blonde counterpart. It had been several minutes since the girl had run off and there was no telling what was going on in the parking lot. Their instructors had stressed how much destruction could happen even in the course of a few minutes.

Pulling a few more injured to their feet and pushing them in the right direction, she skidded to a halt in the parking lot and scanned for blonde hair. Spotting the tall girl clutching her face and shouting she ran over to her and grabbed her from behind. Spinning her around, she pulled the girl's hands from her face and searched it for the injury that she thought was present. When it became apparent that Hunter was fine, she shoved the girl slightly.

"Don't ever fucking run off without me again!" She screamed, her worry apparent on her face. She usually would have been embarrassed about getting this sappy about her friend, but this time was different than all their simulations. This time things were very real, there would be no coming back from this if they were to make a mistake. "Fuck! Hunter, just...fuck! I can't have anything happen to you, okay? Jesus, fucking Christ." She ran her hands over her face in exasperation and took a deep breath to calm herself.

Once she had laid eyes on her truck, nothing else had really mattered. If another explosion had happened five feet away, she scarcely would have noticed. She had been about to reach out and try to pull the mirror out of the glass, another string of brutal obscenities issuing from her mouth, when Mack spun her around.

She stared blankly at her as the shorter blonde hauled her hands down and gave her a desperate and hurried look over. There was an unusual panic on her face, and snapped back to the reality around them, Hunter was a bit touched. Though she dare not say so. Stumbling back against the truck as she was shoved, Hunter growled. "Hey!"

Her own angry comeback died on her lips though as Mackenzie screamed at her, that look of worry hitting home again. She was actually scared, Hunter realized. She watched the girl back off and rub her face, and Hunter stepped forward, clapping her roughly twice on the back. "Chin up, bucko! I'm alive and well! And we're gunna find out who the fuck did this 'cos it's personal! Look at my fuckin' baby girl!" she cried, gesturing frantically to the windshield over her shoulder.

Mackenzie nearly went face first into the pavement as Hunter clapped her on the back. Coughing violently at being hit on the back with the combination of smoke that hung in the air, Mackenzie straightened up and looked in the direction of Hunter's frantic gesturing. Her eyes went wide as she saw the charred mirror sticking out of the cracking glass. "Well fuck!" She said, coughing into her sleeve again as she looked at the truck. "Looks like you're going to be a slimy little freeloader and take my truck until yours is fixed huh?"

It was all a little too real, there had actually been a car that had exploded. If this is what Hunter's car looked like, what did the people who were caught in the blast look like? She hadn't really been looking too closely before, she had been more worried about getting to Hunter. Now though, she started to panic about all the people the knew that could have been hurt.

"Hunt," She asked slowly, turning to look at her tall friend. "Have you seen Mich? We gotta find Mich, and help these people. Kia's setting up a makeshift triage area." She thought for a moment, looking towards the mass chaos that was the green. It would be hard to look for anyone until things were sorted out. Many of the instructors of the auror programs were already starting to organize things. "We should help," She said finally, looking back at Hunter. "We can look for Mich while we get people taken care of. Sera and Tatum too. We'll never find them in all the chaos otherwise."

"Yeah, that sounds 'bout right," Hunter agreed, finally tearing herself away from staring at the damage again. She hated wasting money on shit like that, maybe the school would be liable and pay for it or something. "Does insurance cover flyin' mirrors?" she asked absently.

When Mack brought up Michiko, Hunter immediately pulled out her phone and gave it a little shake in her friend's direction. "Ten steps of ya, buddy. She's fine, jus' shook up I guess.. I told her to look for you if we couldn't find me. I'll tell her to take Yori over to Kia," the blonde explained, typing away quickly as she did. She looked up at the mention of the Donnelly sisters, raising an eyebrow.

"Didn't they tell you to leave 'em alone? Ain't big daddy in town?"

Mackenzie shrugged in response to Hunter's question, she didn't know if insurance covered flying mirrors or not. She supposed it could be filed under accidental damages, but she didn't know for sure. She really wasn't concerned about Hunter's truck at the moment, she was more concerned with everything else that was going on around them.

She was relieved to hear that Michi was okay however, and nodded in agreement at taking Yori to Kia. Her sister knew Michiko well from their high school days, and she knew that her sister would be more than happy to watch over her little brother. Kia adored children, as long as they weren't Mackenzie and Hunter. Pulling out her own phone she shot off a text to Kia to give her a heads up about Yori. After sending it she hesitated, she hadn't thought initially about texting Tatum to make sure she was okay but it seemed like a good idea now. Typing out a quick, to the point text message she sent it, not worrying about how Tatum would react. Even if the redhead was rude to her, a response would still confirm her well being, and that was enough for Mackenzie at this point. In fact, it would be more a sign that something was wrong if the girl wasn't rude to her.

Shoving her phone back in her pocket, she frowned at Hunter's question. "Big daddy can go suck a dick for all I'm concerned," She informed the taller blonde, scowling. "And Tatum's the only who really tells me to leave her alone. You know Ser loves us! I...they're just kind of...delicate. Ya' know? Small kiddos, and such." She trailed off, trying to hide her slight embarrassment at how concerned she was for the two of them. She was about to try and cover up her sappy feelings when another, smaller explosion rocked the parking lot. It seemed like the fire had caused another car's gas tank to blow, and while it didn't do nearly as much damage as the first, it still sent some small bits of shrapnel flying in their direction. Mack felt a white hot pain on her forehead, and brought her hand up to her eyebrow. It came away slightly bloody, and she quickly tapped it with her wand to slow the bleeding. There would be time to properly heal it later, but right now they had to get out of the blast zone.

"Come on," she muttered, a slight ringing in her ears. "We should get out of here, there's nothing we can do for your truck right now. We might as well help get people to the healers."

"Oh yeah, y'all say he can suck your dick now, but I bet if he walked right up to ya right this second, ya wouldn't be sayin' that!" Hunter informed her. She supposed she wasn't really afraid of the Donnelly patriarch, but then again, Sera had never really let her meet him. Her mother had been interesting enough. "An' they might be kiddos, but that little shithouse rat knows more spells than I do! And ain't the other one a doctor? They should be savin' us!"

Just as she had been about to continue her rant about the Donnellys, the secondary blast went off and silence her; the blonde's arms coming up quickly to shield herself. She hissed lightly, catching a couple little pieces on herself but quickly shaking it off. "Good idea there, hoss," she murmured, using her own wand to heal up a bleeding cut on her exposed shoulder.

She wasn't really ready to give up on her truck, and she visibly winced at the sight of new debris now littering the hood. Flicking her wand again, she put out a burning piece or something that had landed by her tire. "Yeah, let's do this. Just like we practiced," she agreed just a little reluctantly. The truck would be there later; whatever was going to be left of it at this rate. "Split up or stick together?" she asked.

Mackenzie made a sour expression, as if she had bitten down on a lemon. Hunter was right, if the sister's father was standing there she probably would have been doing her best to impress him. Mackenzie figured that the girl's father seemed like the kind of guy you wanted to be in good graces with. "Shut up," she muttered, giving Hunter a playful shove. "Like you'd have the balls to say it to his face!"

Watching Hunter put out the flaming debris that had landed near her truck, she stuck a finger in her ear and wiggled it around to try and get rid of the ringing. "That's exactly why we need to find them," She said grimly. "You know neither of them could handle something like that, especially if one of their parents are hurt."

She nodded in agreement, with Hunter, frowning at the taller blonde's question. "Stick together," she said seriously. "I meant it Hunt, we have to have each other's backs. No more than ten feet apart, go it? Always within shoutin' distance." She felt silly lecturing her best friend about safety protocol, but this was one of the reasons she had agreed to join Hunter in the Auror program. The taller blonde never thought before acting, Mack needed to be there to make sure that it wouldn't be the last decision the other girl would make. "Sorry to get all faggy on you, but you're my best friend." She muttered embarrassed, nudging Hunter in the shoulder. "I get graded down if you die anyway, so, don't fuck up my grade bitch."

"Oh yeah I would!" Hunter laughed back, leaning over dramatically as her friend shoved her. "I'd tell him to bend right over and fuck right off, right here! I'd say gimme them little bitches!"

She watched Mack fiddling with her ear, and she frowned a bit, giving the other girl a shove back. "Chill out, come on. I bet they ain't even hurt, they're probably all just huddled around the cross somewhere, praying for rescue or something," she joked, a bit grim herself. Sera was pretty tough, but she was still just a kid. "Their mom is a real firecracker, I bet she got this," she offered.

Slightly disappointed at being told to stick together, Mack was always choosing the safety route, the taller blonde shrugged. "Whatever, whatever! You got it, lady! Stick together, so ya can hear me screamin' your name, just like you like.. I understand completely," she chided back, giving a nonchalant shrug. With her wand raised though, she regarded Mack with a semi-serious look next. "Hey, c'mon.. you're my best friend too, queermo. Let's go already!" she urged, already starting to run off again.

"Whatever," Mackenzie grumbled, still messing with her ear. She was still worried about the sisters, but Hunter was right, their father was a cop and their mother was no slouch either. She decided that she would keep an eye out for red hair, Tatum was small, and in chaos like this, she might have gotten lost. Mackenzie tried to stop the panic she was feeling by thinking about the smaller girl, they had a mission to do. "Let's just keep an eye out for them," she insisted again, trying not to let her panic show. She knew that Hunter would probably rag her later for it, but she needed to know Tatum was okay.

Mackenzie rolled her eyes as Hunter started running away again, the girl never learned. She ran after the blonde, making sure to keep her in her eye sight as she began to check people who had failed to get up still. She pulled one of the underclassmen to their feet and slowed the bleeding before directing her friend to take her towards where Kia said she would be. Mackenzie continued on, realizing more and more how little she really knew about medicine. She could heal small wounds, slow the bleeding, but she had no idea about how to check for internal injury or concussions. She hoped that the people she was helping would be okay with her minimal knowledge.

"Hey Hunt!" She called, straightening up from some junior's little sister that had a small cut on her face. It had been twenty minutes or so since they had ran out of the parking lot. "How's it going on your end?"

Though she had implied that Mackenzie was being silly for worrying, Hunter did keep her eyes alert for any familiar heads or faces, including both of the Donnelly sisters. There was no sight of them that she could gather, which she guessed was a good thing. Maybe she was right and their father had dragged them all to safety to pray or something. That was better than being out in the chaos surrounding her and Mack right then.

Hunter worked with a rare unbroken concentration, determined to get every up that she could help. She didn't know much more about first aid than Mack, just the few things they had learned over the years and in their auror training, but it certainly was no medi-witch stuff. But she did what she could, and she was pleased to see other people helping out as well. Slowly but surely, people were beginning to get cleared out and even the flame from the exploding vehicles seemed to be coming under control.

When Mack called out to her, the taller blonde had just been straightening out and wiping some blood off of her palms and onto the front of her shorts. Stains could be washed, it was no big. Turning her head in the other girl's direction, her threw her arms up into the air. "It's all gravy! How 'bout you?"
