Not daring to look at his watch, Samir could only guess it was at least time now. His stomach flipped at the massive bang that shook the ground and an odd whistling noise cut through the air as what looked like a car bonnet crashed onto the green, very nearly landing in the crowd. The melted remains of whatever status symbol had been on the hood dripped just like water.
He looked up to the sky where plumes of smoke in the school colours rose from the parking lot. Not bad for a rushed job, he thought, marveling at it until he was broken out of his trance by a student running past, nearly knocking Gemma to the floor. He steadied her and as his hearing came back, that must have been some bang, so did the screams of the people around. Time to put on a show, it seemed. "Holy shit! Did you see that, Gem? What kind of monster" he spluttered, waving frantically at the sky.
A little quirk of a smile formed as she watched the blue pillars of smoke forming in the sky. She thought he had been joking. How brilliant.
Gemma had been distracted by the adrenaline pumping through her veins before she remembered that they were supposed to be looking panicked as well until a student pushed passed her. Indignant, she stumbled but she pulled her face into a mask of horror and covered her mouth, letting herself fall into Samir a bit. "What's happened?!" she cried. "Is that..." her eyes scanned the crowd. "Is that a car?!"
"I- I don't know, baby. Don't look!" He held Gemma to his chest, panting more from happiness than panic. He could swear his heart was going to beat right out of his chest.
Some people seemed to actually be hurt, he assumed from the raining debris. One man was clutching his ears which had blood dripping out of them.
Gemma turned into him, burying her face in his chest. It was easier to hide the look of excitement that she was trying to fight. She could hear his heart beating hard in his chest, making her fervor all the more difficult to hide. She squeezed him tight in secret celebration. All had gone as planned and they could reap the benefit of this mess.
She snuck a peak at the wreckage by turning her face just slightly. She could see bloodied up passersby, flames, and smoke. "It's just starting," she said quietly, her voice shaking. "How awful!" she said more loudly, though she felt it was probably the best thing she had seen all month.
Samir caught sight of the school councilor helping an injured student back to the school, in fact it was where most people seemed to be heading. He had no intention of following and missing out on any of the action though and swiftly took off nearer to the parking lot in the chaos.
"Let's go see the carnage" he whispered.
"Beautiful melodies to my ears," she whispered back as she let him pull her along into the wreck. She watched with wondrous eyes, that could have been easily mistaken for dismay, she needed to survey the damage and try to calculate the response time.
She felt a kid in a candy shop as they tore through the debris and the chaos. People were already holding each other and crying, screaming out for each other. There were several people sitting on the ground in shock, blood pooling around them. There was noting so serious but there was plenty of blood and panic. Plenty of time for things to go even more terrible... but these people were not their target, they were their audience and there was a message. The school would not save them against the muggles and there was a stronger power out there, one that was able to respond. "You've done so well," she said softly, giving his hand another squeeze.
Samir craned his neck up, trying to see where the smoke ended but it seemed to rise all the way to the sun. A let out a low whistle. "D'ya think the muggles can see that?"
Just as Gemma squeezed his hand a streak of silver passed them and darted into the woods. A patronus, requesting assistance from Bluebell Town, he assumed. "We've done so well, sugar" he corrected her gently, staring at the patronus fading into the thicket.
"I hope so," she said quietly. "Let them know we're here. Let them know how powerful we are," she was delighted in their success and had to wonder why she hadn't though of it sooner.
"You're right," she said gently. She had noticed the patronus as well and smiled. "It will be another few minutes until the response teams come and they're faster than muggles," the smile she wore was triumphant. "Imagine the things we could do."
"I wish they'd all come and have a look. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel" Samir joked. Wrapping an arm around Gemma's shoulders he stood and watched the twisted wreckage burn.
"There aint no way Sato can squirm outta this one" he remarked.
She calmly watched the flames curling around what was once considered a car and watched the smoke twisting in the sky. There was a sort of peace in watching their destructive work. The thought of what they were going to get into in the next year was almost too much. This was just the beginning.
"There will be instability," she said, her voice shaking with anticipation. "No one will trust the authority, no one will feel safe. They will be ours for the taking Samir. Tonight, I believe is a night we will celebrate."
Victory seemed so close he could almost taste it. Of course, they had a long way to go really, but nothing could dampen his spirits now. Except one thing. "I'll probably have to show my face at a crisis meetin' or somethin' but after that I'm yours" he joked.
"What's the best way to celebrate somethin' like this?" he asked.
"Of course," she said. "And perhaps it would be best advised to offer your services to security for a later date," she smiled warmly.
"A night on the town I suppose," she winked. "Or private drinks at the cabin if even the muggle bars are too suspicious. We are in a period of mourning I suppose," her eyes were alive with mischief.
"We could wear disguises" Samir mused. "I've always wanted a mustache. You would look lovely as a blonde" he joked, nonplussed at the burning wreckage mere feet from them.
Gemma snorted briefly, disguising it as an anguished cry and burying her face in his chest for those around them. "A most excellent proposition. Thank you for thinking so," she beamed. "And I could see you wearing a most handsome mustache."
She was far too worked up to just go home. Tonight there would surely be consequences for muggles who came across the two of them. |
