That was some small relief. "If anyone had.. died. Do you think they meant it to?" It was insane to be talking like this.
Jilly and Ron Parry definitely had a spiritual view of life that made it easy for Ella to relate to. How often would he mother get annoyed at her dad's new crystals lying around the house? Hen's embrace was soothing, and warm. Ella sighed happily. "Well I'm glad he didn't. You're a tough cookie, mister but no one can ignore something like that. What if you arm got injected and fell off?"
He shook his head. "I don't know," he said softly. "I don't think so... I mean... they could have done much worse."
Hendrix was finally beginning to feel relaxed as he snuggled with Ella. He hadn't felt so calm all day. He smiled down at her and laughed. "Yeah," he admitted. "Well... I suppose I would have to learn to work with one arm," he grinned. "Probably have to take up the keytar," he giggled.
"But no one likes the keytar!" Ella joked. It felt good to goof off and she wondered how many others were doing the same right about now.
"Maybe this will bring everyone together" she speculated. "Everyone will be closer than ever. It puts silly things into perspective, you know?" Though not silly things like your tummy doing flips over having a boy in your bedroom, apparently.
He laughed lightly, it felt nice to be normal again, to not worry about the day. "Awww! You think?! Dang! I was really banking on keytar love," he joked. "The keytar revolution!"
"It really does put things into perspective," he said shyly. "All I could think about... was... ugh, this is gonna sound so stupid..." he said resting his chin on the top of her head.
"It's the tambourine for you, Henny!" she giggled.
Frowning a little she buried into his neck some. "Nothing you say sounds stupid" she said gently.
He laughed. "Alright, I got the hips for it," he joked.
He sighed lightly, a little smile in place at her compliment. "Well... I just... I kept thinking that I didn't know how I would deal with a world where I didn't get woken up in the middle of the night by some cute little text message or..." his phone started blaring. "Chicken nuggets!" he said remembering the chicken nuggets down in the kitchen.
Ella's eyes shined as she smiled up at Hen. "Do you really like my texts?" She had been beginning to doubt how much him and Jenny really enjoyed them after this weekend, though it seemed a lifetime ago since she had discussed it with her parents. The sudden noise made Ella jump and she left his embrace reluctantly.
"I'll kick you right out if you've burnt my nuggets" she joked a little weakly.
He stood up from the the bed reluctantly and stretched. "I do," he said turning to her and smiling warmly. "They always make me smile."
"I'll be right back, no burst nuggets or anything," he pounced down the stairs and arranged the nuggets to make a little smiley face on the plate, remembering to grab the ketchup from the refrigerator before heading back up. "Nuggets are served," he said coming through the door again and presenting her with the plate.
Ella's smile matched her plate. She could get used to having her own nugget-fetcher and bringer of ketchup. She squirted ketchup to look like hair, giggling before popping an eye into her mouth.
"Perfectly done!" she said, giving Hen a shove.
Hendrix beamed, he was glad to have made her smile even if it was just getting her chicken nuggets and ketchup. He sat down next to her again and let himself revel in the normalcy of the moment. "Thanks, it was pretty uh... pretty tough work in the kitchen," he grinned.
"Oh I can imagine" Ella played along, chucking a nugget to Maurey. "It's hot, pup! Blow on it first" she told him, and he seemed to understand. He shouldn't really have chicken nuggets but it had been a scary day.
It sounded like a lot of students were returning to their dorms and Ella guessed they had been dismissed from the hall. "At least we don't have to all sleep in the hall tonight" she muttered. |
