Jenny immediately pouted, her eyebrows furrowing together. "I think we have a different idea of a good reason!" she teased her back, shaking her head. "Four AM takes all of the cuteness out of internet cats.."

Ella looked horrified at her sister. "How can you say such a thing!" she cried, looking imploringly at her pops. He in turn looked at his wife with a puzzled expression before turning back to his daughters.

"Now. Cats are very cute, baby, but I think what your sister is saying is that she finds it uncool to be talking about them at 4 AM" he explained diplomatically. "Maybe you should just show Maurey instead" he offered, giving Jenny a wink.

"That's exactly what I'm saying!" Jenny agreed, smiling gratefully at her father. He always had the best way of putting things into the most chilled out terms. It was one of the great things about having an borderline hippie for a father.

"You aren't staying up until 4 all of the time, are you?" Paula asked quickly, eying the two of them. They weren't helping her worry that they were pushing themselves too hard. "Not me," Jenny replied, shaking her head. "Sera goes to bed early too, so I'm never up really late!" she added, pausing for just another minute before going on. "Not that we're always sleeping together-- like, you know, slumber parties. Responsible slumber parties!"

"Jenny! Don't say 'sleeping together' in front of mom and dad!" Ella giggled. Ron's cool was almost shaken by the words and he itched his beard awkwardly.

"Sometimes I go to bed at 5 AM" Ella told her mom proudly.

"I didn't mean it like that! That's what I meant, like.. we don't--" Jenny protested quickly, her cheeks flushing a bit as she gave her dad a little awkward smile. She was glad that in spite of everything, her parents actually took her relationship with Sera pretty well.

"That's a awfully late on a school night El," Paula quickly warned her daughter, pouting in a way that looked eerily like Jenny for their lack of blood relation.

Underneath all his hippy ideals, Ron was mostly glad that Jenny wasn't dating a boy. He'd quite liked that Charlie guy she used to date until he got kicked out of school. At least a girl couldn't get her pregnant.

Ella rolled her eyes. "Moooom! Dad would let me stay up 'til six! I don't even have any bags under my eyes" she argued, pulling her eyelid down to emphasise the point.

Paula tried to keep a straight face, but had to crack a little smile as Ella pulled her lid down. "Okay, okay.. as long as you're not tired, I suppose. Though your dad doesn't always go to bed when he should either," she replied, eying him a little. How many times had she wandered out in the middle of the night and covered the two of them up on the sofa? They were a real pair of night owls, she supposed she should be used to it by now.

"Please don't give her permission to stay up until six! Quiet hour still needs to be like, ten," Jenny quickly chimed in, laughing. "Right?"
