Much like all the other students at Blue Ridge, Michi dreaded parent's weekend. It was just another reason for her mother and her former step father to gush over Yori and criticize Michiko, at least that's what it felt like to her. It wasn't just parent's weekend though, Michi was sure was coming down with something. She had been suffering waves of nausea all day and was just trying to fight another one as they sat at one of the long dinner tables together.

"Michiko Anna," Mika snapped from across the table. "Stop playing with your food," she chastised.

"I aint hungry," Michi said sullenly.

"You want come of my dinner Cocoa?" Yori asked sweetly, pushing his plate toward his big sister. "We can share if ya want," he offered.

Michi couldn't help but smile and ruffle his hair. "Nah, it's okay Yor. I don't want you goin' hungry."

"You know Michiko, you're not really setting a good example for your little brother," Akio interjected.

Michi glared at him. "You barely say a word to me in twelve years yet you feel it's necessary to criticize me every second of the one day you see?" she asked, an incredulous look on her face. She was having a shit day and she just wasn't in the mood to deal with it.

"Michiko, don't speak to your step father like that!" Mika said angrily.

"He aint my step dad," Michiko said, deliberately slow. "You two split and he signed over his parental rights. I can talk to that asshole any damn way I want," she covered her mouth and waited for the barrage, wincing slightly but was glad when she received silence. It was only then that she noticed they were no longer alone at their end of the table.

She had tried really hard to hold back, had tried especially hard to mind her own business. But from the minute that she had picked out her own lunch, Hunter had been absently watching Michiko and her family as they sat at their family. Her seat, a few tables away, was perfect; her height let her look over other people's heads. She hadn't seen her girlfriend since the night before, and the last that she had heard, she still hadn't been feeling so hot. Hunter herself hadn't caught whatever it was yet, and that almost had her more worried.

Well, they had decided, at least she couldn't be pregnant or something. That was just silly.

It was no secret that Mika didn't care for Hunter, and the blonde had resolved that she wouldn't make this weekend worse on Michi than it needed to be. But it was clear, even though she wasn't close enough to make out what they were saying, it was already getting bad. Scowling, the blonde girl made one of her usual snap decisions and rose to her feet, picking up her lunch tray along with her.

Stalking down the aisles between the tables until she came to the one the four were seated at, Hunter stopped and stood at the end. When Michi finally looked up, the last to notice her, she met the younger girl with a waggle of her eyebrows. "Hey you girl."

Michi couldn't help but smile when she saw Hunter despite all the shit that had just gone down at the table. "Hey you," she said softly. "Join us," she said patting the bench next to her.

"Hi Hunter!" Yori said brightly from Michi's other side.

Mika was practically bristling and she had to wonder if Michi had made up with the crass blonde. She had known of their relationship the first time it happened but Michi hadn't told her that they were back together. That would just take the cake on the weekend, Mika thought to herself. "Aren't Jessica's parents here?" she asked. "Won't they want to see her?"

"Hunter can have meals with her parents whenever she wants," Michiko said turning her head to her mother. "Besides... I want to sit with my girlfriend."

Hunter didn't need any more of an invite than that. If Michi wanted her there, she was staying until the other girl told her to leave. And whatever Mika and her supposed husband thought about that were somewhere at the very bottom of the list of things the blonde cared about.

"Thanks," she said brightly, moving over and plopping down next to Michiko with her food. "Hey shrimp! What's up?" she answered, leaning forward on the table a bit to see around Michi and grin at Yori.

It wasn't hard to tell the tension that had set in from the adults across the table, but Hunter wouldn't let it deter her. She was just going to grin and try to keep them off of Michi's back as much as she could. She didn't plan to be rude to them, but if they kept looking at her like that..

When Mika asked about her parents, Hunter turned toward her with an unusually sheepish smile. "Well, my folks aren't exactly the visitin' type.. I mean, to come all the way up here, muggles an' all so they'd hafta fly.. I'm jus' by my lonesome this weekend," she explained, with a smile and a shrug. Trying not to seem like it bothered her. It sort of did in a lot of little ways, but it was expected. She was already over it.

She didn't even tense up when Michi called her 'girlfriend' in front of her parents, but she was a bit surprised. She remembered how well that had gone over last time. Leave it to her girl to cut to the chase. "Oh yeah, that too," the blonde quickly agreed, scooting over closer to Michi. "I mean, I sure did miss her all day, ma'am."

"Nuffin!" he said brightly. "Eatin dinner with Cocoa but she don't feel good," he pouted a little, putting his small hand on her back and giving it a rub.

"Thanks buddy," Michi said sweetly. She loved that kid but hated the fact that both of their "parents" had fought for him but not even lifted a finger for her. She hated the way that they were always plotted against each other.

Mika practically bristled at the blonde and the fact that Michi had called her girlfriend. Her eyes narrowed. "Of course, normal travel is much more inefficient for travel than your magical travel," she said stiffly.

"Whatever happened to Pascual?" Akio asked without lifting his eyes to the girls.

Michi grinned at Hunter knowingly and snorted a bit. "Well... he's history," she said. "I broke up with him."

"I never liked him anyways!" Yori said crossing his arms. "I like Hunter," he insisted.

"Yeah, she ain't been feelin' so hot.. but I look after her, I make a mean soup, right?" Hunter replied, reaching over and rubbing Michi's back briefly as well. Turning a bit to regard Mika again, Hunter nodded her head. "They're real lazy when it comes to their middle baby, so they ain't gunna get no plane tickets on my behalf. I'm real inefficient," she informed the older woman, with a hint of a grin.

That was one word to describe her, anyway.

Meeting Michi's gaze at the mention of Pascual, Hunter's hint of a grin broke into a real one. "He hit the road, and he ain't comin' back no more," the blonde agreed with a nod, chuckling as Yori chimed in. "Sounds like the people have spoken, ma'am.. ta me anyway."

"Well it's not wonder you're not feeling well playing that barbaric sport," Mika said not even concerned that Michi had been feeling ill.

Michi rolled her eyes. "It's called quodpot ma," she sighed. "And it aint quodpot's fault I don't feel good," she sneered. When Hunter spoke though she put her hand over the girls and smiled warmly. "That's their loss Hunt," she reassured her girlfriend.

"What did you do to him Michiko?" Mika glared at the two girls from across the table. Akio finally looked at them to see if they spilled any beans. "How did you drive this one off?"

Michi raised an eyebrow but her lips remained sealed. She wouldn't give Pascual the satisfaction of letting others know how their relationship had really been.

"Quodpot, it's a real respectable sport!" Hunter chimed in, always one to pick up for her favorite hobby. The irritation Michiko's mother was showing toward the sport was just a bonus.

It was the blonde's turn to bristle up this time, really wishing that they would drop the subject of Pascual already. "The trash needed to be taken out.. so it got taken out. Pretty simple, isn't it?" the tall girl sneered back. "He's a douche anyway."

"I wanna play quodpot like Hunter and Cocoa," Yori added, resting his chin in his hands.

"Yori Miyaki you will do no such thing," Akio said to his son sternly.

"Let him do what he wants," Michi interjected. "Aint nothin' wrong with quodpot."

"Miss Sommer!" Mika feigned shock when the blonde girl called Pascual a douche. "Do not speak that way in front of my son! You might have had your chances to deteriorate Michiko's vocabulary with your back country colloquialisms but not my son," she said indignantly.

"Ma!" Michi barked. "You don't know shit about Pascual and you don't know a thing about Hunter, so hush that fuss."

"Perfect build," Hunter leaned over to inform Yori with a quick nod. "You'd be a great centre, just the same as your sis," she went on to tell him, despite the obvious protests and waves of dislike washing across the table at her. She agreed with Michi; let the kid do whatever he wanted.

It was one of the reasons she loved having her parents around. They never pulled their heads out of their asses long enough to remember she existed, let alone try to tell her what she could and couldn't do at school.

Turning on Mika finally, the blonde was trying super hard to bite her tongue. She even literally wash, crushing it between her teeth as she tried to think of the best thing to say. "I dunno what that word means, but I'll have ya know I talk jus' fine! I don't got to.. co-eek_uak-isms or nothin' goin on.. just straight talk."

She was touched Michi took up for her, grinning broadly as the younger girl spoke. "Ma'am, I've been tryin' real hard to be nice an' all but I got this feelin' that y'all don't like me much. That bout right?"

Yori beamed at Hunter when she told him he was the perfect build for quodpot and even moreso for the exact same position that Michi played in. He looked across the table proudly. "Hear that, I can play like Cocoa does. She's really good. You should see her in the games!" he said excitedly.

Michi frowned a bit, like that would ever happen. Mika and Akio looked at Yori as if he were speaking a foreign language and then turned their attention back to Michi and her girlfriend. "Straight talk, right," Mika said coolly. "How charming," she listened to Hunter's summation of their relationship and nodded. "See, your parents might be alright with you having whatever unnatural feelings you may have but I am not okay with my daughter having them, especially for someone as... uncivilized as yourself."

Michi couldn't stand it anymore. "So you'd rather have me be with someone who hits me than be with someone who actually cares about me?" she challenged.

"If that someone you're referring to us Pascual... then yes. I would rather have you be with him than to live in this... unnatural affair."

Hunter hesitated for only a moment. There no question that this woman was pushing her to her limits, but she wasn't sure that she wanted to tear her apart in front of Yori. Her eyes quickly glanced down the table for a moment, weighing out her options on what she could come back with, when Mika dropped 'unnatural' the second time, she was beyond controlling herself. If she had bit her tongue any harder, she was sure there would be blood.

"That's it!" she roared, slamming both of her hands down open palm on the table. "Y'all can see whatever ya want 'bout me, 'cos I guess I am uncivilized.. and if ya must know, my parents a couple of miserable fuc-- people just like y'all, so don't you worry about what they think. I bet you'd even like 'em, you're the same kinda shitters," she informed them boldly, sitting straight up in her seat to take advantage of her full height.

"So, like I was sayin'.. you say whatever y'all want about that, but don't you sit here and tell me you want your daughter wit' that piece of fuckin' trash. Only thing he's good for is dog food, and I wouldn't even feed 'em to my dog."

Mika and Akio were positively seething as the blonde bit into them. They listened, eyes narrowed as Hunter went off. Mika turned her attention to Michiko, who was sitting by Hunter's side, her eyes a little wide. "Quite frankly Michiko, I can see why you think the two of you work together," she snapped.

Michiko looked from Hunter to Mika and then sighed. "You know what ma? Yeah. We do work and there's nothin' you can do about it. She gets me, I get her and we're happy," she said finally.

"What the hell kind of example are you setting for your little brother?" Akio asked evenly.

"Better than the one you two heartless assholes have set!" she accused him. Turning to Yori she took his hands in hers. "Don't turn out like them kid," she said, pressing a kiss to his forehead.

She stood up and looked at Mika and Akio one last time. "Hunter is my girlfriend and if you can't treat her with respect for one meal, then I won't treat you with respect period," she said sternly.

"Wanna get out of here Hunt?" she asked the blonde, her voice shaking.

It took an extremely large portion of Hunter's self control not to go off again, or just keep going. She let Michi take over and do some of the talking, just sitting tall and glaring seriously and menacingly across the table at her parents. What was it with the three of them? Between her, Michi, and Mack, she was pretty sure there wasn't a nice parent on the bunch.

Maybe they had all been left on doorsteps or something, like tall Cinderellas.

"I'd love to go, 'fore I spit in this fool's face," Hunter agreed, standing up and staring at Akio in particular. He had even less room to talk then Mika, yet he kept his occasional comments grating on Hunter's nerves.

"You? Ain't her father, so you jus' better keep your shit to yourself. She's a better example than y'all could ever be, hateful buncha fucks," she added as Michi kissed Yori's forehead. Reaching over, she scruffed the kid's head, grinning at him weakly. "Let's bounce, babe." she suggested finally, turning her little grin on Michi instead.

Michi couldn't feel better about her decision to get the fuck out of dodge before Yori had to see something worse. She nodded, smiling slightly at Hunter before taking her hand. "Oh! Are those dill pickle chips?" she asked suddenly, noticing the bag of chips on Hunter's tray. "Can we bring those, I've got a hankerin' for something salty."

"Oh yeah!" Hunter said, having forgotten almost entirely about her lunch tray. She had actually been pretty excited for it when she has originally picked it up. "Sure babe," she added, squeezing Michi's hand, she grabbed the chips and gave them to her before taking the half of a sub for herself.

"Peace bitches," she chimed happily, shoving the sandwich into her mouth and taking a messy bite in front of them before she and Michi actually walked off.

"At least we gave it right back to them," she grinned up at the older girl.

"Don't you worry 'bout them," Hunter replied lazily, her arm almost instinctively finding it's way to wrap around Michi's shoulders, pulling her closer. "I'll give it back to 'em everytime I see 'em until they learn how to treat people right," she added.

Leaning down a bit, she kissed Michi's temple. "Dunno how a kid like you came outta that ol' whore anyway.."

"I'm tellin' ya babe, I've been tellin' Mack for years that we musta been basket babies.. y'know, like left on the door step or something? Shit like that still happened in the nineties," she replied, shaking her head with a weak smile. It was always easier to explain it away with silly possibilities than admit that they all genuinely just had bad parents.

"Or switched at the hospital, I've considered that too! Y'know I looked it up, they say like on average or whatever, twelve newborn kids go home from the hospital with the wrong folks daily.. like, think 'bout that!"

"Still... twelve kids every day? I'd say chances are we were some of them," she joked lightly.

"Me either. It ain't the kids fault that their parents got issues.. ain't no reason to make 'em miserable," Hunter muttered back, sounding surprisingly wise for someone so bitter. She gave Michi a little squeeze with the arm she had around her.

"Twelve kids a day on average, I mean.. I guess that could be eleven kids one day, and then thirteen the next day, but it's still a huge chunk! I say we get tested, maybe we're lucky. I bet the government gotta pay a whole lotta cash money for a fuck up like that, too."

"Right?" she asked, it had been a genuine question of hers for years and she just had to wonder what she had done as a kid to deserve the shit she went through. In the end the only offense she ever managed to wrangle up was that she had been born. Sighing deeply, she opened her eyes.

"Yeah we should," she snorted. It'd be a miracle if she ended not actually being Mika Miyaki's child. She had seen similarities in herself and her mother and it had been enough to drive her up a wall. She hated the things about her that were like her mother, she hated being compared to the woman and she hated being related to her. From what she knew of her father... well, she couldn't stand the thought of being as cruel to him so she pushed their one visit to the back of her mind. "We could totally just... escape and be done with them. Get the fuck outta here," she said lightly.
