August found it very difficult to stay away from parties. They were a place for fun, drinking, general merriment, and women. And with what his mother had planned to make such an event of this-- in his own home, no less-- how could he stay away? And surely the Widow Ishild could use some... birthday attentions.
He made sure to charm as many of the female guests as possible as they arrived (he was just being the host's gracious son, after all), sending husbands to the bar and children off to... wherever it was children went. Who in the world brought children to these things anyway? They were awful nosy little things, just the right height to notice and point out his wandering hands.
This thought was soon set aside by the appearance of a lovely face. "My dear," he offered smoothly, taking her hand and pressing a charming kiss to it. "How wonderful it is to see you."
