Test scene
Maria Helena Grayson Wayne opened an eye and groaned. She felt like she had been chewed up and spit back out. Stupid magic. She hated magic. It came as a surprise that one of the criminals she had been pursuing had been a magic user. She found out the hard way after she had cornered them.

Maria picked herself up and stumbled back to where she left her bike. It was gone.

"Dammit!" she cursed. It would be a long walk home. Or maybe not.

Maria found a bicycle that was locked up outside a pizza shop. She felt like a heel, but she need a set of wheels. She was only going to borrow it. She'd return it tomorrow night. The lock was easy to pick and a few moments later she rode off into the darkness.

Quite some time later she reached the Batcave. Now she could trudge upstairs and get some well deserved sleep.

A silent alarm went off in Wayne Manor, indicating that there was an intruder. The light flashed in front of Bruce, and then his television flickered on with a visual on the dark haired girl walking casually through his house. For her to have come in through the route she had--this made Bruce very leery.

He stepped out of his room, Ace at his heel and his cane gripped tight in his hand. He stood int he middle of the hallway. "And what do you think you're doing here, girl?"

Ace growled, and Bruce tightened his grip on his cane. He was old, but he still had a lot of fight in him. And he had already taken his pills.

Maria froze at the sound of the voice. Though it seemed a little off. "Uncle Bruce?" she said. Figures he would catch her coming in on one of her worst nights on patrol.

Good thing he took his pills.

"Excuse me?"

Maria stepped out of a shadow and got a look at him. He was old. Something was so wrong.

"Uh...Uncle Bruce. But not. Something's so very wrong."

Her reaction was genuine--Bruce could easily tell that much. But he was Bruce Wayne, and he needed to know for sure.

"Who are you?" he asked, although it seemed like more of a demand. If she was related to him in any possible way, Bruce needed to know by whom. And he needed a blood sample.

"Maria Helena Grayson Wayne," she answered. "Helena and Dick Grayson were my parents. When they were killed, Bruce Wayne adopted me. But just not you. No offense, but you're too old to be the Bruce Wayne I know."

Bruce arched his brow at the comment. But what was more interesting was that Dick and Helena ever had kids, in any universe. Or rather, it was more disturbing.

"Then you know that I'm not going to take your word for it," he commented. If she agreed, he knew her story was more likely to be true. A DNA test was all he needed, and he already had Dick's and Helena's on file in his computer database.

Maria smiled. It was nice to know some things were similar. "Saliva, blood or urine? Please don't make me pee in a cup. I hate that. If I could get a cup of coffee while we wait for results, that would be fab."

At the very least, she was strongly associated with Helena.

"Blood," he informed. It was the best way to get an accurate result. "I'll have Lucy get you a cup of coffee."

He called for Lucy, who was sleeping and didn't appreciate being woken up so late at night. But she obliged to Bruce's request, since they had a guest.

"You didn't have to wake anyone up. I know my way around a kitchen and how to use a coffeemaker. 'Young Miss Wayne, cooking a skill that everyone should have so one does not have to rely on others or takeout' as Alfred always said." A pause. "But I get the trust issue," she said with a grin.

Bruce didn't say anything in reply, despite how that sounded like Bruce. Lucy walked by them and smiled at Marcia before heading down to the kitchen.

"We'll be in the Batcave," Bruce told Lucy, and he lead the way downstairs. Ace walked with him.

"Ooh! Ooh! Can I lead? I know the way," she said with an impish grin. "So, should we start the interrogation or are you just going to be all grim and scowl until we get the results?"

Bruce didn't reply. He just kept walking, with the same look on his face. And when they arrived, he prepared to take an DNA sample.

"Ah right. So it's grim and scowl. Nice to see some things are similar," Maria said as she plopped down on a stool and rolled up a sleeve."Do I get a bandaid with a happy face on it and a lollipop when we're done for being a good girl?"

He gave her to silent treatment while he worked. He prepped the location where he was going to stick the needle, and then drew some of her blood. He turned from her and set it up in his equipment for analysis. It would take a few moments for it to register, by which time Lucy would be coming down with the coffee.

"'Cause I'm only in this for the happy face band-aid and the lollipop," she said. Maria was used to Bruce being silent and had usually talked enough for the two of them. "I don't give out blood for nothing and stranger do have the best candy."

Maria's DNA was inserted into the database, and Bruce ran the program for comparisons to Richard Grayson and Helena Bertinelli. And it matched. Bruce's expression got even more grim.

"How did you get here?" he asked. He expected some snark in her reply, as per her relation to Helena. But if she knew him well enough, she'd get to the point soon enough.

"I was tracking a group of criminals and when the timing was right I swooped in to kick their asses. One of them was a magic user. I kicked some ass and then the next thing I knew I woke up face first on the pavement in this world."

"So I passed, boss?"

Bruce kept silent for the moment, thinking about things for a moment. The DNA test didn't lie, meaning that he would be in contact with Dick and Helena, and soon.

"I'll be contacting your parents--from this Earth--tomorrow. Until then, you know where the guest room is." Code for 'get some sleep'.

Maria blinked. "They're alive?" She hadn't really been expecting /that/. Her mind started racing. She hadn't thought of the possibility that they could still be alive in this world. Then again she had only been here for a span of five minutes so far.

It was mind blowing.

Normally here was where she would make a comment about Bruce being more crotchety in his old age, but she didn't have the ability to form words at the moment. She nodded instead.

"I think I need to sleep on all of this."

She looked at him and almost told him she didn't want to see Dick, not yet, but she didn't. She nodded.

"Thanks, Bruce." She left off the uncle to keep him from being uncomfortable.

"Just get some sleep," he said.
