Insula De Virsta: Kantele Tribe History
The Kantele are a peculiar tribe with an even more peculiar history.

One of their known abilities is that they can reincarnate, though they do not remember their previous lives and must relearn their magical powers (if they should manage to discover them).

Their other known ability is that they can balance the magical power on the island so that it does not tear itself apart. Since this magic is so vast and so concentrated it takes effort to keep it contained safely (or to release it without self-destructing). Their ability is not simple to learn; it's something that they must feel out and familiarize.

A majority of Kantele are blessed with unique, individual gifts. Cian can give people second chances. Broderick can turn things various colors just by touching them. Xanthe can affect the moods of people around her.

At one point there were many Kantele living on the island and their ability to balance the island was innate. However, several centuries ago, the Kantele had a mass exodus off the island (whether out of boredom or frustration or other personal reasons). Gradually the Kantele numbers have been dwindling until there are very few left, tucked away in random pockets on the island.
