New Year's Eve Masquerade! For Tuesday

Octavius believed hiring someone to organise an event for him meant they would actually organise an event for him. Unfortunately, that notion proved to be a false one when the organiser left him high and dry in the middle of the month, but Octavius persevered. With the help of himself, Mira, occasionally Lottie Sweeting, and an army of lackeys, the night of the masquerade had come together as beautifully as possible.

Lottie had, for once, actually done her job, and at either entrance of the grand foyer were attendants handing out beautifully crafted half-masks to party-goers, and collecting them as people left. The ballroom was majestic and shimmering, the music was softly thrumming, the drinks were pouring, and the mood was infectious. All in all, Octavius thought, it was a satisfactory night to end a rather satisfactory year. After the chaos and excitement that had chased him all throughout 1983, he was rather happy to have had a (comparably) quiet year.

"Can you make sure Miss Warbeck is ready to begin?" he murmured to an attendant nearby who then scurried off. The Wizarding Wireless Network had, after all, promised a wonderful surprise at midnight! Octavius needed to ensure everything went perfectly.

The flash of a nearby photographer made Octavius scowl, annoyed was he at even the few press witches and wizards who had paid handsomely to be at the charity event tonight. The publicity was good, no one could deny that, and the masks concealed everyone's identity at least marginally so there was no grievous intrusion on privacy, but that didn't mean Octavius enjoyed their presence.

He rolled up the sleeve of his dress robe to check his watch, then his eyes darted back to the stage. It was five minutes to midnight! What, for heaven's sake, was Celestina Warbeck taking so long to appear onto an already dressed stage? Shaking his head agitatedly, Octavius cut through a path through the brightly coloured bodies in the mingling crowd to check on his star performer.

OOC Read this for questions, or ask me! Fluid time, so feel free to thread before/after kisses. Again, the "compulsion" to find your kissing partner kicks in 5-10 minutes before midnight and could be anything from thinking you should walk and get some punch to being mystifyingly sexually attracted to the masked stranger at your side. HAVE FUN! GO WILD ♥ AND HAPPY NEW YEAR'S MY GORGEOUS GALS.

Wedding Guests!
Miranda couldn't believe it. She'd been married to Ralph since November, but it felt---surreal now that they'd actually had a wedding in front of their family and friends, it felt like a dream, and the past few months were all part of the vivid, vivid swirls of thoughts that were zooming around in her head. They were married, again, but it felt like the first time all over again. Miranda wished she could have a wedding every week, if it was going to feel this damn good.

She could barely keep herself off of Ralph. Her sneaky, wonderful husband had surprised the life out of her when she began to walk down the aisle and spotted his bright red hair. Miranda had begged and whined for Ralph to dye his hair back to its natural state from the dark, nearly black color he'd kept it during his time in hiding, so---she'd burst into tears at the sight of him, but in a large part it was at the sight of his hair.

Things were finally like they should be. There was no war, there were no death eaters trying to kill them, and she and Ralph could start their lives as husband and wife without being quiet about their court room nuptials; they could really start a life now.

Miranda resisted running her hands through Ralph's hair as they shared yet another dance. She knew that she'd have to let his mum and the rest of his family take a turn, but she was the bride. She could hog her husband all she wanted. Miranda smiled sweetly up at Ralph, completely dazzled by the day.

CHRISTMAS PARTY [BACKDATED TO 23RD]

After making a quick stop to check on the children upstairs (Anthony and Elijah looked so precious), Mackenzie continued on her normal perimeter around the party. Ensuring there was enough food and drink for everyone was extremely important, as well as making sure that no-one was left standing by themselves too long. That would hardly promote good review upon later reminiscing among their guests. But luckily, neither of these issues had seem to come up yet, leaving her with little host responsibilities.

So that left Mackenzie practically purring, as she had been for most of the night. The party could not be going better. The house looked beautiful thanks to her near-obsessive decorating, Christmas spirit was in full swing, and everyone looked like they were truly enjoying themselves. Nothing could go wrong, absolutely nothing, making Mackenzie feel her happiest in what seemed like a very long time. This had been a very good idea! Maybe if things continued like this, she could convince Sebastian to make this their annual holiday tradition...

Couldn't be too careful, though. Just for good measure, Mackenzie picked a few of her husband's favorite hors d'oeuvres as they passed by above, placing them on a plate. Finding him was easy; ever since she had gotten back, Sebastian had replaced her shadow. Not in a bad or stifling way, but in more of a supporting kind of way. She knew he was worried.

"I have a present for you," she smiled, producing the plate with one hand as the other wrapped around his open arm.

RALPH - Last Night!
"I NEED MY PINK SHIRT!"

Miranda shrieked to Greta, or to no one! She didn't know! Was Greta even in the flat? Had her friend's mind gone as completely blank as Miranda's had when the owl carrying the most amazing issue of the Daily Prophet ever burst through their kitchen window at nearly midnight? She couldn't think! Well---she could, but the only things running through her mind were the fact that You-Know-Who was gone and that Ralph wanted to marry her.

Again! He wanted to marry her! For real this time, she knew it was different, she knew that it was because their lives were finally going to be disruption free, death eater free and they were going to be able to get married and buy a house and make lots of babies and---

Knocking! Loud---loud knocking! But she had to look nice for when he put the ring she'd returned back onto her hand. Miranda combed her brush through her hair one last time before shooting out of the bathroom and to the front door of the flat. She'd been so cautious about opening doors without checking these past few months but nothing could ruin this night. Miranda flung the door open and there was Ralph, and she let out a shriek of joy as she threw herself at the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with.

BLACK OUT!
Gabriel was silently wording his opening lines for the next segment of news when the lights dropped. He lifted his head in a curious manner, having been standing away from the news desk and wondering if it was just a backdrop thing. It wasn't exactly peculiar, there had been men working on the spells earlier this week which had caused the lighting charms to flicker and crackle. He let out a breath and stood where he was, watching as nearly everyone around him performed lumos with their wands. Gabriel supposed he should as well, and wondered if this sort of incident would mess up the wireless airwaves. He didn't know much about the magic behind the WWN, but he supposed those who did would fix things.

He muttered to his assistant that he was going to go into the corridor to see if it was only their studio that had gone out, and she quickly skittered away to find the snack trays. Gabriel let out a breath, sighing at the thought of having to stay at work later because of this delay. He had dinner plans for Rachel and the children, he did not need the annoyance of pushing back reservations. As he pushed out into the hallway, he let out a groan at the darkness. His wand was soon out and he felt awfully tired, frustrated that his day was going to be spent in near darkness.

"Do you have light?" he called out to a figure down the hall, noticing a brighter light than that of a normal lit wand. "The spells have gone out over here, it's pitch---"

Why had he been so languid in his movements just now? Darkness overcoming the WWN studios? In the middle of Diagon Alley? Diagon Alley, which was the near breeding ground for death eater attacks. Gabriel wished he had the mindset to jump to the worst possible conclusion, but the spell the cloaked death eater shot off sliced him across the side of the head, knocking him out cold and to the ground.

If he didn't die today, right now, Rachel was going to kill him.

miranda!!
"So where is this place again?" Moses asked trailing behind his sister.  "We've been walking for ages."  But they really hadn't been, maybe for five minutes.  "And I'm hungry and I want to know all about what I missed.  And what you've been up to, and how is Ralph.   And all these other things that should be discussed while sitting.  And preferably eating."   he whined playfully poking his sister in the shoulder a couple of times.  It was rather fun acting like an obnoxious younger brother.  "And then I can tell you all about my adventures in Scandinavia.  You wouldn't think there would be much cursebreaking to do there, but you'd be wrong.  Except not.  It was rather boring."

Moses frowned slightly when he realize he was the one doing all rambling and talking, and usually Miranda was way ahead of him.  And she was being quiet.  Well not quiet but she certainly was letting him win in the talking department, which was unusual.  "Hey you.  What's up?"  he said nudging his shoulder into hers, taking a slightly more serious tone.

As Jonas revved up for the last song of the day, Kobe smiled brightly at the crowd. The critics had been wrong. It was a peace rally that had gone off without a hitch and no sign of death eaters, anywhere! The extra security must really be doing its job, and everyone was having a blast. She'd even seen some aurors bouncing around to the music, too! Kobe was incredibly proud of her husband, and she looked up to the clear blue sky with a wide, toothy grin.

It faded slightly, however, as some dark clouds began to roll in over the park. Remarkably fast clouds, which didn't seem natural and were already thundering loudly. The weather report had claimed they would have clear skies all day, so this was strange and----Kobe slammed her hands over her ears as the loudest roll of thunder clapped itself over the park. Immediately the clouds seemed to open up and rain began to pour down on the crowd like buckets. Well--if bad weather was the worse of their problems, they'd done a pretty good job, right?

Kobe gasped as a bolt of green lightening shot through the crowd, followed by the terrified screams of the concert goers.

"No, nonono----" she let out from the side of the stage. Where had they all come from? The bloody sky? Kobe started towards Jonas, to pull her husband off the stage because while they had met during a catastrophe, she really did not feel like enduring another one, "Jonas!" she screamed, but was thrown off balance as the stage began to creak and shake as if an earthquake was beginning to rumble underneath.

Peace didn't stand a chance, these days.

It was a beautiful funeral, as funerals go.

Miranda puffed her cheeks, hunched forward with her hands clasped between her knees. She felt like a child, stuck at an adult party and forced to sit on the couch in silence until it was time to go. There were things she could be doing, that she was supposed to be doing, but Miranda couldn't get herself up off the couch. How were people able to stand around and talk, and eat, and---some were even laughing. They had just buried their friends, their family, and now, apparently, it was time to eat off of trays and share stories and start talking about this funky smell that was coming from---

She let out a long breath and slumped back into the couch, putting a hand to her forehead to try and numb the headache she'd had for the past two days. For the past few months she'd had this constant throbbing in her skull and it didn't look like it was going away any time soon. Miranda stretched out her legs, knowing that she would have to stay at this gathering of funeral attendees until the last of the guests left. She was like family to Madam Rosemerta, she had to stay.

The sarcastic thought made Miranda's chest hitch and her hand slipped to cover her eyes to hopefully stop herself from crying again.
