Two days after a shooting in the Triangle, Angela Holt drives her Mercedes Benz to the small office in the gang-infested part of Star City. This place looks like a bigger dump than it did the last four times she's come here, but in order to get what she needed, she had to deal with Michelle Torres. Angela likes this idea as much as she likes the idea of a root canal, but if they're going to do this job, they're going to need someone who knows the lay of the land.

The other three operatives for this little shindig would get pulled together as quickly as she could manage, but starting with Floyd Lawton's kid was the easiest way to go. Only one of the remaining three would be a tough sell, if any. There wasn't a reason to think Merlyn would say no.

Getting out of the car, Angie straightens out her black pantsuit and runs a hand through her hair. She looked too much like her mother some days, minus the weight. Tucking her gun into the holster at the small of her back, Angie puts on her black coat and starts to close the car door, then stops.

"Wait, let's not be stupid." she says to herself, reaching into the glove compartment and with drawing the small sphere with an engraved "T" on the face. She sets the T-Sphere's parameters and lets it go. The little thing vanishes and Angie suddenly feels about thirty times safer than she did with just the gun. She closes the car door and then heads into the apartment building.

Approaching the door to the apartment, Angie knocks, readying the little document that substantiates her cover story.

Unfortunately, people came to the apartment all the time. Neighbors and acquaintances who didn't want to go to the office would wait until they thought Michelle was at home and want to talk to her here. After it got around that Zoe was armed and would answer the door herself, they made sure not to lurk suspiciously in the hall.

Today was no different, except that Michelle wasn't home. She was at the office. Zoe answered the door, half expecting that red bird guy from the other night. He'd said he'd be in touch, but she hadn't seen him.

She opened the door and looked at the strange woman standing in the hall.

Angela immediately hands Zoe the notice.

"You've been served." she says, dropping the notice at Zoe's feet.

Then she walks away, heading back down the hall.

"Hold it!" Zoe ordered. She didn't stoop to pick it up. People could kicked you when you were close to the floor. "Served for what?"

"I don't read the papers. I just serve them and go." she says, continuing to walk away.

Angela desperately hoped that this girl was a lot less her father's daughter than her mother's.

Goddamn rookie mistakes.

Angie stops and turns around. "You live in a real shithole, you know? Ever think about fixing that? Or are you gonna wait for other people to do it for you?" she asks.

New York and the Count
[info]dc_checkmate
2010-10-17 03:13 am UTC (link)
Two days after her talk with Zoe Torres, Angie got off a plane in New York and went directly to the Waldorf Astoria to meet with her next recruit. This was pretty much the opposite end of the spectrum from her meeting with the younger woman, and Angie strangely hoped that this would go as well as her meeting with Zoe did.

When Alphonse Vertigo returns to his suite that evening, he'll find a young, dark-skinned woman in a black party dress sitting on a couch, waiting for him.

"Are you Alphonse Vertigo?" she asks.

In spite of his usual disdain for American decadence and Americans in general, Alphonse rather enjoyed New York City. There was something to be said, he would be forced to admit, for the unique way in which it blended so many different cultures.

His right hand reached inside his jacket for one of his knives.

"That depends," he said, his English accented, showing his Eastern-European roots, "on who wishes to know."

"There's no need for weapons, Mr. Vertigo. I'm actually here to discuss some business with you regarding Vlatlava. Situation over there is pretty dicey, what with the shoe-string budget and barely standard materials your people have to work with.

The nations around Vlatlava keep growing in prominence and power, while your country seems to decline just a little more each year." Angie conversationally.

"I've heard that Qurac is starting to look in your direction. They've got some serious weaponry there. Wouldn't take much for them to make life really hard for your people if you don't have money to pay soldiers, food to feed people and such. In fact, I can tell you who's currently trying to get the Quraci President to start an invasion the United Nations won't lift a finger to intervene in.

And...it's kind of bitch trying to finance a war out of your own pockets from the other side of the world with breadcrumbs." she says, finally looking at him.

"Your country, like you, could use some friends in your corner. I could be one of those friends, if you're willing to listen." she says.

Vertigo's hand dropped away from his weapons, but he could retrieve them quickly enough if need be. There was little harm in listening to what was being said, especially since he could just kill her if he had to.

The information was largely nothing he did not know... but there were other, tantalizing pieces he did not. He was in one of his better moods today, and kept control of his reactions.

"I am listening," he said, crossing his arms.

Angie silently notes the T-Sphere lodged in the upper corner of the room and feels a little more comforted by its presence. If Vertigo tried anything, she was sure she could shut him down in the absence of her gun.

"I'm putting together a special team with special privileges. You've got a skill set that would be useful and I can guarantee you pay that exceeds the crumbs you've been working for over the last few years. You'll have to hit targets I want hit when I want them hit and work with others...but in return, I can give you a few things.

One, we can get the process started on introducing you to the right people who can help you legitimize your claim on the Vlatavian throne. Two, I can help you get in touch with people who can get you weapons that will make the Quarcis piss themselves when they see them.

Three, international aid and relief for your people, so that they don't get starved to death in a drawn out conflict...and finally, if none of that gets the job done, the bastards trying to take over your country can be removed from the board." Angela tells him.

"But it's going to require you to put in some work and maybe help a few other people realize their own goals, Alphonse. Can you do that?" she asks.

An interesting deal to be certain. One that strikes him as almost being too good to be true. On the other hand, it is an opportunity he can ill-afford to turn down. Not with the wolves always at Vlatava's door.

His father had done no less for the country, bartering his services often with the American woman, Waller, in exchange for forms of aide or necessities.

"I am more than capable of doing what is necessary to benefit my people," he told the woman.

Gotham City- Natasha Irons and Robert
[info]dc_checkmate

Natasha Irons arrived at the apartment in Gotham City where Robert Queen was staying. She arrived when she knew that the woman that he was staying with would be out. She didn't want to have to deal with someone else in the room.

Besides, there was the chance that this could get messy.

Natasha looked over the files for Robert Queen one more time before putting it back in her briefcase, knocking on the door.

Robert grabs one of his long-knives from his room and creeps silently to the door. Jane hadn't mentioned expecting any packages or visitors. He's been here for a bit now, and he knows what the UPS guy's footsteps sound like.

He also knows what Jane's sound like and this isn't her. He has yet to meet up with Mia, but that's supposed to change soon. He looks out the peephole and sees a woman. Dark hair, light skin, dark eyes.

Her. Here? She must not have gotten the last message he delivered by putting an arrow in her backside.

The door opens and Robert quickly brings the blade to the woman's throat...even as he realizes that this isn't Angela Holt.

"Come in slowly, please. Attempt to attack me and I won't mind explaining the body on the floor to my...roommate when she gets here." Robert Queen says.

"Name. Now." he says, motioning her inside.

She gets inside and Robert kicks the door closed with his foot, keeping his eyes locked on hers. The blade remains at her throat for a long moment while Robert considers a couple of things.

"You know my name, which is a strike against you. I don't know you, which is a second strike. Yet, you came here and didn't pull a gun to start off with, so that's a point in your favor. Finally, Miss Irons, I don't think the timing of your arrival is an accident...though if you were here to see my roommate, you'd have found her instead of me.

I'm gonna guess you're here to talk, rather than fight. You live for now." Robert says, slowly lowering the blade and sheathing it. He takes a couple of steps back from Natasha and nods.

"What can I do for you, Miss Irons?" he asks, keeping his weight on the balls of his feet in case he needs to spring again.

The Other Side of Town (Rose)
[info]dc_checkmate
2010-10-19 12:09 am UTC (link)
Angie leaves the Waldorf feeling like her meeting with Vertigo went well. So far, she's feeling that this team could go further than it's predecessor did.

However, there are still two team members to recruit. As luck would have it, Angie thinks she got the easier of the two. Especially since the other guy isn't someone she's looking forward to seeing.

Half an hour after the end of her meeting with Vertigo, Angie Holt is knocking on the door of a Manhattan apartment building, hoping that she's not about to catch a sword to the face.

Angie caught Rose as she was coming out of the shower when she heard the knock on the door. "Damn," she said, throwing on her bathrobe, grabbing a knife out of the kitchen.

Few people knew where she lived. Few people stopped by regularly. And if you could say that she had frequent visitors, her brother Joey always called beforehand.

If it was her father on the other side of the door, Rose would not be a happy camper.

She checked through the peephole. Not her father, but still no one she knew. Angie would have a knife blade pressed to her throat when Rose opened the door.

"You're going to do a couple of things for me. One, you're going to step inside slowly. Two, you're going to give me your name and tell me what the hell you're doing at my apartment. And if you even think of pulling a gun on me, it'll be the last damn thing you ever do."

Angie wasn't surprised by the welcome, but damn if she hadn't expected this from the other recruit instead. Rose Wilson was said to be the most stable member of the Wilson family (if one could call any member of that family /stable/).

The next few seconds are critical.

"All right, lead the way. My gun is in the holster at my lower back, Miss Wilson. You can take it if you need to." Angie says, stepping forward only when Rose allows her to do so.

"My name is Angela Holt and I'm putting together a very special team with special privileges. I would like you to come work for this team as my second. You would lead the team in the field and generally be responsible for carrying out my directives.

In return...not only will you be paid handsomely for your time, but you'll get to kill people who deserve it, save people who deserve it more...and perhaps I can help you answer a question that even your father can't." Angie says.

"Do I have your attention?" she asks, trying not to think about the blade at her throat.

"Well, like I said, you'll be paid well. However, I'm aware that you've been discreetly looking for information on your mother, Lilian Worth.

You're not the only person looking for her, Rose...and the other people who are don't share your warm feelings on what to do when they find her." Angela says, taking a moment to collect herself.

"Working with me can get you that information, and get you a team of people who can help find your mother. Granted, you'll also be asked to help them with their own personal issues, but it could be a fair trade. All things considered."
